Sail Barbary to the Maori Rock Carvings on Great Lake Taupo, New Zealand....

Sail Barbary to the Maori Rock Carvings on Great Lake Taupo, New Zealand. Sail Barbary is an all-year-round top rated Taupo activity; offering relaxation, fun and adventure on the water the Kiwi way.

Taupo's 14-meter high Maori Rock Carvings are possibly the largest of their type in the world and are a must-see attraction, only accessible by boat. Sail Barbary has been offering sailing cruises to these carvings since 1983.

Soak up the sun or roll up your sleeves; you can take the wheel, help hoist the sails or just sit back and enjoy the view. You’re guaranteed amazing photo opportunities as you experience one of life’s postcard moments. You can even BYO (Bring Your Own) food and beverages. Things really couldn’t get more Kiwi!

As New Zealand’s only two commercially operated electric yachts - We're equipped for all conditions; if the wind dies down, Barbary's eco-friendly electric engine kicks in, moving noiselessly through the water. When the wind is up, you can enjoy sailing without salty sea-spray and noisy outboard motors. Warm ponchos are supplied.

Sail Barbary cruises to the Maori Rock Carvings depart daily at 10.30am, 2.00pm, and 5.00pm (*5.00pm Summer Only).

We don’t promise the best cruise on the lake, we deliver it!

Our sailor was a gentleman. He gave us the bow part of the sailboat as we were with 2 young children (1 and 2 years old). We enjoyed our ride thoroughly and the sailor kept us engaged with the information about the lake and Maori art. I would highly recommend to visit Lake Taupo and with Sail Barbary. Our little... What a fabulous introduction to Lake Taupo !! Our host was delightful and happy to answer any questions. Whilst there was not enough wind to sail we got to have a good look around his beautiful yacht. His talk on the carving was entertaining and interesting. Also respectful. Lake Taupo is stunning and we were lucky to be on the... More

Ahoy! Mateys be aware, this cruise will get you addicted to sailing! Silently gliding over lake Taupo while riding the different wind gusts is a blast. Plus Jaimie is a super hosts playing tunes on request and sharing stories of the area. This is the way to experience Great Lake Taupo!

I felt this was an amazing way to experience the rock carvings on lake Taupo. The sail was very relaxing and a nice way to spend a few hours. We got up and close with the carvings so we were able to take some good photos. Also be prepared with food and drink as your aloud to take them on... More

Hi there, thanks for your nice review! We're so pleased you enjoyed the cruise and found it relaxing. One day we'll learn to control the rain, but in the mean time, our fluffy waterproof ponchos do a pretty good job at keeping everyone dry & warm! Cheers, Sarah & Jamie More

We had a great day on the Barbary. The captain was fun, informative, approachable and professional. Sail boats are so much nicer to take it all in. Recommend this.
