It wasn't in our plans, but we saw the sign literally 2 minutes after driving out of Taupo and decided to stop. Only $8 to enter and I thought it well-worth the stop and cost. It was a nice precursor to the Waiotapa Thermal Park we would visit later that day. Need to point out that the staff was extremely... More

We were a little hesitant to pay $15 each to go and look at the geysers and thermal activity, but it was worth every penny. Craters of the Moon have an attractive setup and improvements on the way.

Compare to other thermal parks in the area, craters of the moon doesn't have too much to offer. Upon entering you'd think it has very little of anything at all, but walk for ten minutes and you'll start seeing the large crates the attraction is named after. It's well priced for what it is, good side attraction..

Walking in a thermal field is something that I never thought that I would do. I am so glad I did. Reasonably priced entry. Very good quality walk ways, and what a great way to spend an hour of your life. If you are heading to Taupo, you need to do this.

This is a amazing place to visit, it is a 45 min walk so its quite long. Lots of steam and a few mud pools to look at. We came in the morning that is a good time to come as its not to busy and not to hot as its getting warmer in NZ

Sadly it was pouring with rain the day we visited this time, but umbrellas were available so my UK tourist took off ahead as he really wanted to see bubbling mud and water... it is funny how something we take for granted has such appeal for those who do not have this where they live. Craters of the Moon charge... More

Craters of the moon offers a walking path through a geothermal area with steam and boiling mud. It takes between 45 mins - 1 hour depending on whether you choose to take the steep lookout sidetrack. It's a nice experience and allows you to get as close as you can to these phenomenons safely. You do feel that you got... More

Geothermal mud pools and steam vents right before your very eyes! The day we went it was raining - funnily enough, this makes the steam more impressive (the lovely ladies at the front desk were kind enough to lend us an umbrella, but you could buy ponchos too). An amazing 45min walk around this 'freak of nature' setting - something... More

About five years ago entry was free. It was then ok as a bush walk. Is still ok as a bush walk. If you are wanting a geothermal experience there are far better.
