We had been told about these lovely rhododendron gardens before we arrived in NZ & we knew it was the wrong time of years to see rhodies & azaleas, but it was still a bit dissapointing as there are major refurbishment work going on at the moment so there is no cafe or information centre & only one block of... It is famous for its Rhondodendron, however you should visit during the blooming season to see the beauty of the flowers, usually during spring October to Desember. When we visited in January the blooming season has passed and the flowers fade and only left a little remaining. Anyway, whatever the season, this garden is magnificent in size, where you can... Loved this place to wonder about and see the wonderful work that has been done to set these gardens up.A great walk to the the summit if time allows. Awesome friendly and helpful staff with a small cafe to enjoy a great coffee and snack. Big renovations underway so would be keen to go back and see it all finished.... More

My wife and I enjoyed our relaxing stroll through the Pukeiti Gardens. At this time of year, the red rhododendrons and the hydrangeas have the brightest colours, along with the hollyhocks. The gardens, as well as the restaurant attached (which supplies simple but delicious and nourishing meals), are undergoing an upgrade, which will further enhance this already awesome place.

This took a short 15-20 min drive to get to, but was definitely worth it. The gardens are stunning. The walls are relaxing and surrounded by beautiful scenery. Would be a great venue for a wedding! Offers great covered seating. Tree houses hidden among the walls for the kids. Currently undergoing some upgrades. Very impressed!!

We were chancing our luck going here when weather was unreliable but chose a shorter walk (rhododendron stroll) and managed to stay fairly dry. While rhododendron season is over the hydrangas look stunning and the giant himalaya lillies are impressive. Lots of improvements since our last visit two years ago with building work underway on cafe and information building. Highly... More

We arrived 30 minutes before closing however the gardener was very helpful, by suggesting the best areas to walk around in the time available and told us he would leave the gate unattached for us. Good paths to walk around on- but some areas are hilly.

for a very pleasant stroll amongst the native bush and more recent exotic plantings. Lots of rare and unusual plants can be seen. Further development is being carried out which will enhance this attraction even more in the future.
