The building is amazing. A great icon for New Plymouth. The art is very interesting. It is a good mix between the Len Lye exhibits and the mainly female artists work.

I was a little disappointed by the amount on displays, but what there is, is interesting. This kind of art isn't usually my thing but I had a good hour looking around.

Well worth an hour or two of your time when you're in New Plymouth. It's art with a difference. Tip: Please engage with the staff as they help with interpretation and understanding.

Worth visiting this gallery for the building alone. A stunning addition to this funky town. Not so impressed with the art though I did like the Len Lye exhibitor for all the reasons cited by others. As well as the 2:00pm trilogy display, be sure to check out the slightly surreal short 1937 Len Lye film commissioned by the postal... More

The Govett-Brewster is a striking, shimmering building that catches the eye immediately. Take photos from the outside. Don't bother going in — there isn't much to see. I wasted 45 minutes inside and I don't think I'll be going back.

The building looks lovely, but the artwork inside is not really art and modernist fluff. If you like swashes of paint on boards and metal bands banging up and down, this is the place for you, usual snooty staff with noses up in the air.

What a great place , both inside and out! And it's FREE. never come across Len Lye's work before and we found it so interesting. The moving displays inside catch you by surprise -simple looking structures when still, then they start to move and create noise. Loved it. Different. New. Exciting. The gallery also has quite a few other exhibits,... More

We really enjoyed the contemporary approach to modern design and although surrounded by period design of early settlement the building makes a gentle statement of integration

We were spending time with family and looking for things to do. We enjoyed our visit. The Len Lye exhibit was fascinating. The children were enthralled and so were the adults. Well worth a visit to appreciate the talents of local artists.

I had vaguely heard of Len Lye through his work in creating the wind wand in New Plymouth, but I didn't know much else. I had a chance to stop in at the exhibit to learn a bit more. A bit eccentric, as artists can be, Len Lye created some truly interesting pieces of work. Adding movement to sculpture has... More
