Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lake Okareka walkway is approx 5ks return. Flat, easy, wheelchair or pushchair ok. Picnic tables on the way and seats for a rest. Bird life great and generally a great place to take photos.

This is a great place to walk, lots of wildfowl, and smells of sulphur adjacent to the spas in Rotorua. A good way to spend an hour

The Lake Okareka Walkway is a perfect walk if you want a flat and easy walk with lots of opportunities for photos. It is a very peaceful walk with places to sit along the way and would be a great walk for a family. I would recommend going into the bird watching hut and just sitting there quietly for a while. There are many different kinds of bird there and they can come quite close while you're in the hut. Hope you enjoy the walk :)

This walkway is short and can be done by everyone. It follows an easy trail and boardwalk away from the housing area so is very peaceful. The lake is stunning on a lovely day and the water so warm for a paddle. There are composting toilets near the end of the walkway. A short wee gem in the area.

Although we didn't do the walkway, I still wanted to do a review
Lake Okareka is a beautiful small, charming town where we parked up and had a picnic due to the glorious weather. So peaceful here.
Would be a great place to live!
Well worth a visit

Lots of bird life, and wetland vegetation. There is a hide where you can watch the birds without disturbing them. We saw black swans, NZ scaup, Pied shags, Black shags, white faced herons, paradise ducks, welcome swallows and a harrier hawk. The sun was out and we thoroughly enjoyed our walk.

I've been in Rotorua a long time and never knew this place existed. What a beautiful spot. Allow 2 hours to do the full walk, and don't forget your camera!

You drive to Acacia Road, a small car park with the sign "Lake Okareka Walkway ". Park the car and enjoy. You will walk pass lake, wetland landscapes, farmland and beach. I meet a mum sitting next to the lake and feeding her baby with the pushchair next to her. I meet a couple with a three years old boy swimming in the beach. I meet a young lady jogging along.
The wetlands at the beginning of the walkway are home to a wide range of aquatic birds.
Return the same way as you came.
It took me 1 hour 30 minutes in total.

This is ideal for anyone who likes birding and also those who just want to have a nice walk/jog.
The path is easy to follow and well maintained - very pleased to find the "facilities" at the 2k mark!!

This lake, much smaller than many in the area can be reached by a well-kept walkway. It is very peaceful (we saw nobody else during our visit there). Great for wildlife and bird spotting. There are toilets and hides on site and information boards along the walkway.
