Overview
Take a jet boat on the Waikato River past Tutukau Gorge to ‘The Squeeze,’ a narrow section where you wade in shallow water to a waterfall. Reward your adventurous spirit with a soak in the thermally heated waters of a natural spa in the river, then hang on for an adrenaline-fueled ride as your driver kicks into high gear and expertly maneuvers the jet boat into hair-raising spins and turns.

I tried to book online about 3 months in advance for my wife and I to do The Squeeze on the day of our wedding anniversary. Their online booking system wasn’t working for any days into the new year, so I rung them and managed to do a booking over the phone. They said that they would email a confirmation of the booking to me. I waited a couple of weeks and no email arrived, so I rung them back and they assured me after going over the details, day, time etc, that the booking was solid for the day and time that I’d asked for and that I didn’t need the email. I wasn’t exactly happy that I had no physical booking confirmation in case something went wrong, but I had to let it go and trust that everything would be alright. I carried on planning the rest of our anniversary trip around this event and found lots of other things for us to do in and around Taupo while we were there. Everything I’d planned was a complete surprise for my wife btw, even the fact that we were going to Taupo. Fast forward to the day of our anniversary (a Wednesday) and we turn up to the NZ Riverjet base to find it all locked up. My heart started to sink, after all this surprise was the one that had to go right seeing as it was our actual anniversary. I rung their phone no. and the owner/manager answered and I explained our predicament, he was very apologetic, checked his bookings and then told me that he had us down for the Friday. I told him that I’d rung twice and said Wednesday and that they’d said after the first call that they would send a confirmation email and hadn’t etc etc. I explained that this is why I wanted that confirmation email, so nothing went wrong! He apologised again, mentioned that they had a 100% rating on Trip Advisor and offered to give us the ride for free at a future date and if we couldn’t return, we could gift it to someone else. We didn’t turn it down, but did say that we wouldn’t be able to do it on this trip and didn’t know when we would be back. He said that he would look into what went wrong at their end and get back to us. We left it at that and went to find something else to do for the afternoon. Did we ever get a call back? NO!! First rule of business, DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU ARE GOING TO DO! That’s what went wrong at their end, 1/ Didn’t send the confirmation email like they said they would. 2/ Then never rung back like they said they would after everything went wrong. It’s really disappointing as NZer’s who are trying to help struggling tourist operators out by travelling the country and doing these types of things, that we try to do them and get let down. For anyone looking to do this, I’d wait until international tourists are back, maybe then they’ll have their A Game back and live up to their 100% Trip Advisor rating. In the meantime, I wouldn’t bother, it seems that with very little work on and less staff, they can’t cope.

Probably the most fun I had during my trip to Rotorua so far! I’ve done a lot of activities around the area, but this one in particular is definitely a MUST-DO! I’d recommend this to anyone traveling in the area:) Our guide today Cam was super funny, fun, and knowledgeable, so our day was even more exciting. The squeeze itself is an amazing experience, and the waterfall and the thermal pool were super nice and warm. The jet ride was exhilarating, and it was honestly so so fun! Thank u again Cam!

Had an absolute blast on the Squeeze trip today! The scenery is magnificent, the river spectacular and the squeeze is exceptionally unique, a freak of nature you could say. Our guide was pleasant and was a competent (to exhilarating) driver. Always felt safe, enough professionalism for that - but relaxed enough so it wasn’t sterile. Really turned up the dial. He was good to talk to, knew the area well and really made the day. Thanks Cam! I’d driven past many times but thought ‘it’s just another jet boating ride’ but how wrong I was! It’s an excellent little adventure... if you don’t enjoy this you’re probably dead

We were alerted to this trip by a colleague and weren't disappointed. Cam was a fantastic guide and driver. Great combination of jet boating (fast and slow) and visiting some geothermal hot springs. Highly recommended.
