Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Tom took us hiking and bird- watching and it was a wonderful outing. My husband had several birds he was hoping to see... and Tom made sure he had a chance to see them all. He was patient and diligent and truly knows the birds and all their hangouts! Great day in the NZ forest!

My husband and I just returned from spending an unforgettable day with Tom, the owner of Foris eco-tours. We hiked in two distinctly different parts of the rainforest while Tom shared fascinating information about the 1000 year old trees, unique soil and more. Midday, we took a break to enjoy a lovely picnic lunch which Tom had brought.
We concluded with beautiful drive through the countryside back to Rotorua.

We highly recommend Tom and his company as your Rotorua guide choice. Tom is professional, reliable, knowledgeable and engaging!!

We just got back from our honeymoon in New Zealand and this hike was one of our favorite excursions. Not only was the forest beautiful and our guide, Tom, knowledgeable, but he was great to talk to and kept us entertained from his stories. Felt like a hike with our good friend showing us around. If you are in the fence book this tour it was awesome!

AWESOME TOUR. The Whirinaki forest is just spectacular - primeval, lush, green. The hike was wonderful and our guide made the trip special by thinking of all the details.

Couple helpful hints - good waterproof hiking boots, water! Plan on being there for about 4 hours, plus the round trip tour from Rotorua - roughly 90 minutes.

Thanks for your kind words. It has certainly been raining this year but what better place to visit than a rainforest. Thanks for spending your time with us.

Well organized trip, owner Tom is really nice. Guided us along the way and on the mountain, with detailed info about NZ such as landscape and history knowledge. Volcano also looks cool and unique. We even had a chance to see the Hook Fall, and the coolest Mcdonald’s in the world😂😂. Lunch was good as well. Would def recommend this trip👍👍

We decided at the last minute to hire a private tour guide on our visit to New Zealand. The owner Tom had to jump through a few hoops to fit us in. We are so happy we did. We definitely saw so many sites we would never have seen without an experienced guide. Tom’s love of the environment and history of the area is highly evident by his knowledge and commitment. Thank you, John & Nancy Weber

Karl took us through this magnificent forest, and we came out better than we entered. Knowledgeable, funny, and sincere, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day and guide. It was pouring down rain, and we were safe within the forest's canopy. Best day since we've been in NZ. Highly recommend this off the beaten path experience. You see few people and a small intimate tour!

Really excellent experience with Foris! Our guide Karl was fantastic and explained a lot of NZ’s history along the drive to Tongariro. The tour was a fairly easy walk and we had a wonderful lunch at the waterfall. He even made a special stop at another falls for us to check out on the way back. Definitely recommend and hope to be back for another tour. Thank you, Karl!!

Tom was a very interesting and competent guide for the day. We saw several birds I was hoping for and saw his private reserve. He is a good conversationalist and provided us with both history and nature information.

We had an excellent time exploring the Whirinaki forest with Tom. I told him that "the geo-thermal stuff in Rotorua is cool, but this is even cooler" and that I promised to tell everyone else that, too.

I truly mean it that this was one of the most spectacular places to explore. We tried to take a lot of photos (and Tom was very kind to take a some of us next to some very cool trees) but they simply don't do it justice. You have to see it with your own eyes.

Tom is a great guide, extremely knowledgable, clearly passionate about his work and conservation in general. Highly, highly recommend this experience.
