The Blue Baths is a beautiful heritage listed Bathhouse located in Government Gardens, Rotorua. An iconic feature of the city, the art deco Blue Baths daringly offered mixed sex bathing for the first time in a public facility in New Zealand, way back in 1931. Nowadays visitors can take a self guided gallery tour of the Museum or a dip in the historic geothermally heated pools. The building is also used as a venue for weddings and other special events. In the Lido Lounge (once the Adult Pool) seasons of original, homegrown theatre feature throughout the year. Summer 2106 see's The Choice (Jan 23 - Feb 26) directed by Jennifer Ward-Lealand, storm the stage. A cleverly scripted parody of the current cult of TV talent shows, The Choice showcases an outstanding line-up of kiwi talent. Än Auckland theatre critic says "Wickedly written, slickly performed and cleverly directed to parody the current talent show phenomenon that dominates our airwaves, The Choice is undoubtedly the funniest show I've seen for a long, long time. In fact I can't remember the last time we laughed so much until we wept. And yes they were definitely tears of joy watching the brilliant cast on stage at The Choice at the Blue Baths in Rotorua" Sharu Delilkan - Theatre Scenes.

I'm almost reluctant to let people in on how wonderful the Blue Baths are for fear of it becoming too popular! My husband and I along with our 2 1/2 year old visited for the first time today. In the drizzly Rotorua rain we had the main pool to ourselves. The other outer pools are heated to a higher temp... More

Our tour bus stopped here as a part of our excursion to Rotorua and Te Puia, and it was a very refreshing stop. We had about an hour to tour the facility, eat fabulous scones with butter and drink hot tea, with a brief walk around the flower displays and museum outside of the baths. Stop in while you're in... The baths are nearly always quiet, which is a big part of the attraction for me. There is a main pool and 2 hotter spas. There is an adjacent museum housing vintage swimsuits and other period pieces. The architecture is Art Deco Spanish. There is an attached old fashioned tearooms which we did not try today, having come straight from... More

I went to the Blue Baths as part of an awards evening. The entertainment was fantastic with three tenors and a lady singing and putting on a very humorous show. The food tasted very nice but the portions were so small that everyone was still hungry at the end of the night. The main courses covered less than half of... More

Went to the Blue Baths for a wedding reception. The tables were set up in the actual old pool. It was pretty cool. The pool which is still available to swim in was warm and lovely. The museum part of the pools was cool, especially the different swimming costumes and the history of the Blue baths. It was certainly great... More

The main pool was slightly warm, and the "hot" pools on the sides were slightly warmer, stagnant dirty water. Worse of all, the main pool was closed to us shortly after paying to get in, because they had swimming lessons, which they didn't tell us about going in. I didn't know there was a show until I saw the reviews... More

This was the most amazing, random experience on my trip to New Zealand in Rotorua. One of the people I was traveling with in Auckland got his blood pressure checked at a Fire Station who recommended we see this upon knowing we were going to Rotorua next. We had no idea what we were getting into, we had no idea... More

"The Choice" is the latest offering from these guys who have really mastered the art of live shows. Its funny and its relevant. The references to local icons and places is a nice touch. The show is slick and time certainly flies when you are having that much fun. A thoroughly fabulous evening out in Rotorua

Outstanding show at the Blue Baths Venue written by Jess Sayer, uber-talented actor and playwright. It is a performance of song and dance by 5 very enthusiastic actors who give it their all. The venue was conducive to really enjoying a night out "at the theatre". Good food and service and very friendly staff.
