Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The green lake is beautiful as every lake in New Zealand is. This one is surrounded by dense forests making it feel very prehistoric. We visited on a dreary, wet overcast day so the lake did not look green as the name suggests but still a nice drive to see it.

This is a sacred lake to the Māori people and the local iwi control it. Therefore no swimming or direct access. But you can see it from a lookout if you do the blue lake track.

It was truly amazing to see two lakes, green and blue side by side in front of my eyes! What a wonderful world! Unforgettable view, truly breathtaking! Photo prove all!

Most people see this lake by going just past the Blue Lake. Get a totally different view of it through the majestic redwoods by accessing it from the forestry road off SH5 (south of Rotorua, opposite Tumunui Rd). Parking area here, and walk in through the forestry for 10minutes. Some tracks in here to walk on too, including one going through to the Blue Lake. Lovely views over this special lake...

Lovely free attraction to do. The green and blue lakes really come to life from the lookout. You can clearly see the different colours. Worth a drive out to see. Not far from Redwoods Tree walk. Carry on further up the road to view another lake where we got to see wood pigeons and tui's. Amazing for our Japanese visitor to see.

It’s great to stand on the viewing platform to see an unspoilt green coloured lake (sacred, nobody to touch it) and the next door blue lake with a striking blue colour so different from its green neighbour.

The viewing area splits the entry road to a small parking lot. Do this from their, or follow the blue lake track from the main parking to get here.

This is just one of those cool spots.

A sacred lake left untouched. Great to view from the viewing platform that overlooks both the Green & Blue lakes. Picture doesn't show it but it does have a distinct green color to it. There are lots of overgrown vegetation surrounding it that gives it a tranquil effect. A must visit during a sunny clear day. Short drive from town.

Just love the walks and mountain biking tracks around the Green Lake - the area is just stunning, calm, inviting and just very very beautiful! Definitely a great trip for a Sunday afternoon to hang out - with kids, dogs, family or just by yourself!

Adjoins the Blue lake on the south end and is also surrounded by tropical growth. It's smaller and the color defiantly stands out.Well worth a look when driving past.

Known as the green lake, it lies lower than the adjacent Lake Tikitapu and is considered tapu, or sacred. As such it has few direct visitors. It can be viewed from a viewing platform in front of the parking lot between the two lakes. When viewed side by side, it is clear this lake is green and the other blue hence their nicknames. In the northwest corner of the parking lot is a path that leads to the green lake. It is treacherous and should be taken with caution.
