When cruise ships come to the Bay of Islands, they always head for Paihia Harbour and the town of Paihia. They always have a market in the town and there is a very friendly atmosphere.

We went down when a food market happened to be on I believe and it was wonderful! There was a fantastic musician singing and playing guitar, food stalls and people relaxing and having a bit to eat. There are some really lovely sculptures and artwork...More
We spent a number of day's biking and walking around the harbor, Waitangi, Haruru Falls and many other areas. The ferry was also a highlight as we have not really experienced this often.
Saw it first with an early morning see fog, then it lifted, and showed it's true beauty. Went out on a boat to pest free island later in day, and had many amazing walks around enjoying all the views.
Love the new layout of the Paihia waterfront, it is definitely an asset to the harbour and love the busy nature of the harbour during the week. The Russel ferry from Paihia for foot traffic is popular. If you have your own car then it's...More
