We were stopping in Paihia and decided to take the passenger ferry from Paihia Harbour to Russell to have a look around there. We bought reasonably priced return tickets from the Paihia i-Site at the harbour, but it was also possible to buy tickets boarding...More

Very scenic bay with a relaxed laid back atmosphere. It has tropical Queensland vibes. A great place to kick back in a cafe or restaurant and stare out at boats coming and going in the harbour.

We passed through this area briefly again after many years and it was divine. It was a perfect day, the sun made the sea glisten and I wished I was staying longer. However it was enough of a reminder to make me plan a trip...More

It's a real tourist trap. It has a cheesy, honky tonk feel to it. It's like a Middle East Bazzar. Everyone is trying to sell you something. You can stay in Russell or Kerikeri and begin your tours from there.

The lovely scenery is why one wants to linger here, great views of the water and the hills, an extensive bay.

Our cruise ship’s first stop to explore the birthplace of New Zealand. The harbour area is clean, nice sculptures, and restaurants, and plenty of souvenir shops. There was a pad with a helicopter ready for flying. The boats leave on schedule to other islands, but...More

This was excellent, with dolphins soon accompanying the boat and an excellent commentary by the Captain as he took us along. As well as pointing out and explaining places of interest as we went, he took us through the Hole in the Rock at the...More
