One of my most favourite places in New Zealand and the historical birthplace for the British pioneers. The important places of what happened in this area and settlements around the Bay of Island shaped the national as we know it today.

If you are in Pahia, I would highly recommend a boat trip out to the islands – they are simply stunning, especially on a sunny day! You can stop on several islands and hike to viewpoints for rewarding views. There is great snorkeling on Motuarohia...More

Good area for walking along, boardwalk is wide & plenty to look at. The main wharf is where the day tripping boats go out from, & which the regular ferries go across & back from Russell, in a 20 min apart schedule. Lots of restaurants...More

Such a gorgeous view of the islands - we took a dolphin cruise and boarded here. The beach here is a mix of sand pebbles and some cool rocks in one area that you can explore.

BRING YOUR SUNSCREEN!!! We cringe when we see Winter white Europeans baking at the beach not aware that the NZ ozone layer is half strength and you’ll BURN in 30 minutes. It’s a beautiful setting with restaurants and shops throughout the area.

The main dock drops onto the main drag, which is about a block long with shops and restaurants. Most of the shops closed up early, but the restaurants and ice cream shops were busy. A good place to grab a boat tour to Russell or...More

Sorry we were not there for New Years Eve - spent it in Auckland. Great fireworks there from the Sky Tower building!
