Paihia Harbour area is lovely to walk around and explore on foot. Paihia has a little beach and jetty running along Marsden Road. Several bars, cafes, restaurants and hotels are close by. Very pleasant.

Pity about the rain. The bay was beautiful but was a bit brown. Amazing sunset though. Great long beach to walk along

The harbour in Paihia has an abundance of boats available for whatever suits your fancy, whether a cruise, fishing, parasailing, or other activity. There were many restaurants nearby offering local seafood, and the central part of town was just across the street.

The ticket office is here for trips around the Bay of Islands & the small ferry to Russell across the Bay. I don't know that you need to book trips in advance plenty seemed to be buying on the day.

Sorry we were not there for New Years Eve - spent it in Auckland. Great fireworks there from the Sky Tower building!
