Wow-my husband and I could not have asked for a better day or more fun aboard the R. Tucker Thompson. We met so many fun people and enjoyed a day on the water. Climb the rigging and enjoy the view from above, take a hand at the wheel and learn about sailing aboard the beautiful ship. The food was yummy... More

I know, I need to polish up on some new adjectives. Even in a light fall rain, the trip was just so mellow and kickback. The staff was so cute, the young woman captain ran a great ship. So, there are differences in words between the USA and NZ, they served "scones" for morning tea. I am pretty sure they... More

Kia ora - it sounds like your holiday in New Zealand was a great one and we're delighted to be one of the highlights of that tour. It don't think "scones" translate to any languages, it's a quaint English delight which is best served in Devon or Cornwell with clotted cream! But is a recipe from the original New Zealand... More

Yesterday we had our 12th trip on the RTT, we go every time we have visitors. Our 12 year old grandchildren rode the bowsprit, hauled sails, took the helm and went swimming and snorkelling on the island. Unforgettable day, and the fares go to fund educational trips for teenagers in the winter.

This was so cool to go on a sail in this tall ship. Now before you picturing the Black Pearl, it was a but smaller and more of a working vessel, but you get to be part of the crew, helping set sail, and can harness-up and climb the rigging if you wish. Skipper Ari, Alex, and Ethan were great... More

Yes we are a bit smaller than the Black Pearl, and our crew aren't quite such ruffians - you need to sail the Lady Washington for that! But very glad you enjoyed your taste of tall ship sailing on board our "good ship" and great you made the most of the extra private tour back to Opua.... Kia ora! More

Stuart Birnie was SO helpful in arranging this tour for us. My husband is disabled, and required a bit of assistance along the way. After much liaising between the two of us, it was agreed that my husband would be able to do the tour. The tour was FANTASTIC, it was worth every cent, and every moment. Crew were delightful,... So glad it worked out well for your family.... we always like to say yes and then figure out the best way to make it happen! We have even hoisted a wheelchair up the rigging once upon a time! We appreciate your feedback and we'll pass it on to the crew, kia ora! More

I highly recommend spending the whole day out on the R. Tucker Thompson and getting to grips with how a tall ship sails. You can do as much or as little as you want, but it was great fun to help haul up the sails, don a harness and go to sit out on the bowsprit. If you have a... More

Inspiring way to get out onto the water. Ari was a wonderful skipper and very knowledgeable. The whole crew were very welcoming and they put on a great BBQ lunch. The opportunity to explore an uninhabited island was a bonus. Overview we felt that the trip represented very good value for money. Any profit made is put into educational trips... More

Kia ora and thank you very much for your review about your day. We're not the cheapest option for a day out in the Bay but we hope people feel that we offer value for money, so your comments are greatly appreciated. And your support for our youth voyages is appreciated. More

We did the full day trip and had a wonderful day. The crew were really friendly, they let you get as involved as you wanted (I got to raise the sails, steer the ship and go out on the bowsprit) but there's no pressure, so you can just sit back and relax if you want. The food was good, and... More

We are so glad that you had time for the full day sail, so often people have so much on their itinerary that they opt for the short sailing instead. How wonderful it was a highlight of your holiday, that is always our hope so thank you very much for letting us know. Kia ora! More

We did the "Perfect Day Cruise" on tuesday so this is compared to a very high standard. Loved it ..... getting the sails up, playing sailors, seeing dolphins, time on the island, great lunch, fantastic scenery. All the crew were fantastic. All your $$$$$ spent here goes to the vessel trust for developing youth in the north, well worth supporting.... More

Wow, you got to go to the Poor Knights on Perfect Day, so we appreciate we have a high benchmark to live up to. So glad we did! The Hole in the Rock (Wall) is just too far for us to go to, and we can't get through it with our masts anyway, so it's better to do it in... More
