This was on my 10 year olds daughters 'list to do' We enjoyed our time out of the sun and it was nice to be reminded of all the marine animals and their backgrounds. We paid for entry and noted that there were no tickets given for entry, no maps or information from the counter. (which was slightly annoying once... More

We visited on 16th Jan 2017 and absolutely loved it! All staff were so friendly and helpful and great with kids. Will definately return next stay in Napier. Prices are reasonable too which is great when travelling with a family.

This aquarium was really disappointing considering it's the national aquarium, generally it was small, the tanks weren't clean, they were crowded, etc...We really found it below the current standard for animal welfare. That being said, seeing the kiwis in the kiwi house was great!

Not a large aquarium by any sorts and is better suited to the more inquisitive younger members of the family. As for adults and older teens not so exciting. However our main reason to go was to snorkel with the sharks in the main indoor tank. Although you are assured it is safe the Jaws tune still pops up in... More

My 5 and 2 year olds enjoyed this place. Such a wonderful learning experience as they saw sharks, turtles, blue penguins, fish of all sizes swimming above them. I could not believe they also had a tank of piranhas and I walked away still not knowing the answer to the question: Can you tell which piranha is the dominant of... More

Went to the National Aquarium with my 2 year old granddaughter. She loved all the animals especially the pinguins and the crocodiles. The enormous tank with the Sharks was also a success. Lots of things to see for both children and adults

The National Aquarium is a small aquarium in Napier. It is got a tunnel where you can walk through to see some sea creatures, some penguins as well as some other sea life. It was a nice visit but not a must do.

We were in Uganda and saw a snippet on BBC World News about the amazing escape of Inky the octopus from Napier Aquarium! Our kids have been fascinated with this story of Inky slipping out of his tank and contorting his/her body down through a small drain, out to the freedom of the sea - and as we knew that... More

Thank you for taking the time to visit. We appreciate your constructive feedback on Inky and we continue to be amazed at how much reach worldwide his story had. You make a fair point and his story is one we have considered making a feature of within the Aquarium since his great escape. We are continuing to look at how... More

Great looking building in a top location. Charging for 3yr olds however seems stingy, but hey... Small array of average looking fish. Wonderful sea turtle, but sad that he's been here since 1979. Instutionalisation is sad. Walk through overhead aquarium all a bit empty. Several small sharks, one, maybe two stingrays, but otherwise nothing to get too excited about. The... More
