- SBPB2014Hamilton, New Zealand55 contributionsStunning setting combined with great foodWe started with a wine tasting after looking around the grounds. The tasting consisted of 4 wines with one of us having the red wine and the other white wine. They were so delicious that we bought some wine after our meal. The setting for the wine tasting was on the desk with wisteria hanging nearby and looking out on the fountain and the many birds practicing their nest building activities. After the tasting we celebrated our wedding anniversary with lunch in the restaurant. The garlic, truffle and cheese ciabatta starter were scrumptious and indicated the quality of the meal we were about to experience. We both enjoyed the market fish which had a lovely combination of various other ingredients e.g. lentils and peanut. Feeling in a very greedy mood we opted for dessert. The whole experience was one of the best eating experiences. Thanks to all of the staff.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 October 2023
- Julie J88 contributionsFabulous experience at Mission Estate Winery! Highly recommend! We biked to Mission Estate Winery for a wine tasting and lunch. What a fabulous experience! Yvonne suggested a flight of both red and white wines to be shared between the two of us. She shared tasting notes as well as some of the history of the building and grounds. The wines were so delicious that we drove back later that afternoon to buy a few bottles for the rest of our road trip. Yvonne really made the experience so enjoyable. After the tasting, we enjoyed lunch at the restaurant. The food and service were excellent. All in all, we had a great afternoon at Mission Estate Winery. We highly recommend a visit for a tasting and lunch!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 November 2023
- JdudsConcord, Massachusetts11 contributionsThe Highlight of Napier Visit! We walked in to just wander around and ended up having a Fantastic tasting experience. We wandered the beautiful grounds and then tasted a number of lovely wines. Max was a wonderful host and flexed the tasting based on our feedback and specific interests. All in all fully exceeded expectations and most highly recommend!Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 December 2023
- Christophe S20 contributionsThe referenceThe oldest winyard and probably the best. Wine test and lunch on place. Perhaps one of the only one easy with the 3 colors and sparkling. Red wine amator, this is the place... Very great time!Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 December 2023
- ChrisAuckland, New Zealand178 contributionsA Nice Summer DinnerVery nice food - I'd believe it if someone told me it was the best in the area, and possibly the most comfortable seats I've ever had at a restaurant. However the service was frequently awol, and for "fine dining" this is a cardinal sin. The approach to the restaurant is lovely, and the eating area itself is in several inter-joined rooms. This has the unfortunate side-effect that often there's no line of sight to servers if you have a request. If you are in the area and want a special night out this is probably the one to try.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 February 2024
- Winnall0140 contributionsMission Estate dinnerNot only is this an astounding setting for a meal (or any occasion!) the food and service were second to none. Service was prompt but not pushy; we were keep up to date with what was happening and the intervals between being seated and being expected to be ready to order were perfectly timed. The halloumi starter was particularly delicious - is it honey that makes it so sweet and more-ish? The two people who ordered steak at different requirements of cooking were not disappointed and the lamb was absolutely to perfection. Their Pinot Noir was superb, it goes without saying! Friendly, knowledgeable wait staff, a delightful ambience and of course those views make this a very special place indeed. Not to be missed!Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 12 March 2024

Never know New Zealand wines are so damn good!! if international freight isn’t so damn expensive I would’ve shipped several cases. A must try winery, for sure! We had a lady called YVONNE she is just so gorgeous 🫶🏼Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 25 March 2024
- Kylie ShaverQueenstown, New Zealand83 contributionsLovely snack menu and great bubblesWe came at the end of lunch service so we ordered from the snack menu. We got the chicken bites, potato wedges and cheesy bread. The food was delicious. We also got a glass of bubbles and it was very smooth. Really enjoyed our snacks outside and the views! The staff were lovely as well.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 August 2024

The wine tasting here is expensive even though we were given a complimentary glass each.
Other wineries charge $5.00 pp for a tasting experience but if you purchase they do not charge for the tasting.
We spent a lot of money here but still had to pay the tasting fee.
The restaurant at lunch time was in our opinion below par for price and our food wasn’t as spectacular as we had experience elsewhere a couple of days ago.
Following Elton concert the entire place looked unloved and not up to our expectations sadly

Although this winery is in a beautiful setting, the way it runs its tasting room is very commercial. We have been to hundreds of wineries in our time and found this one to be not that great (very unexpected seeing it is the oldest in NZ). There was a $10 tasting fee and you got to keep a free glass but the tasting process is very rushed. Far better wineries around although the view and setting is stunning.

The wine was below average and the cellar door host even worse.
Came for a wine tasting to be told after 5 min of being ignored that they were fully booked even though it was basically empty.
Got put in a corner and quickly offered 2 wines from the 6 to try with no explanation about the estate or the wine before the host disappeared again.
The 2 samples lacked any character, aroma, taste, fruit... Or anything that you could expect as a minimum for a wine.
Disappointing

We made the 2 1/2-hour drive from Turangi to have a tasting here. We found the NZ$10 per person tasting fee to be fair for the number and quantity of wine tasted, plus we both liked every offering, which is unusual for us. The souvenir wine glasses were a plus. The best part of the afternoon was enjoying a cheese board and glass out back with the lovely view. The restaurant prices seemed a bit high, but it made for a nice indulgence.

wine and cheese was good. Staff was clearly inexperienced and not prepared to handle a low yield of customers. Brought out wrong cheese (cause they didn’t have the kind we requested). Great place to visit for free stuff, because of mistakes. Check out the smaller, better wineries nearby. I recommend ash ridge, church road, and even the much smaller oak estate. Much better service and wine.

We stopped here on our rented bicycles for a wine tasting. Trevor was absolutely charming and guided us through our tasting. Very reasonable $10 for a tasting and you get to take away a souvenir glass. Very interesting history and some fabulous photos lining the walls. Even the teens were impressed. Some delightful smells wafting from the very busy restaurant in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon, which is great to see.

I often don't enjoy visiting the larger wineries for the reason that you often leave feeling more like you've just come off a production line rather than receiving an enjoyable wine tasting experience.
The grounds here a indeed very nice and the building is attractive however it's the attitude that because you're in a larger establishement, they don't need to make you feel welcome or really showcase thir product because new customers will come along after you.
This is how I felt here. The wines we were given to taste were mediocre and I think it's because some love gets lost when making wine on such a large scale.
Visit for the sake of visiting the name but don't hold high expectations.

Visited a part of a cruise tour, the setting and building were lovely. We had a tasting of 5 wines, but the servings were rather small. The guide seemed a bit nervous and talked rather quickly. wines were available for sale at a decent price.

We came over the busy New Years period. We didn't make any bookings but luckily they squeezed us in for a wine tasting.
Unfortunately the restaurant was full but we enjoyed more wine and snacks outside, which was probably actually more fun.
A beautiful old building and a good spot.
Definitely worth a visit and we'd happily go back next time.

Our local winery with an amazing restaurant in beautiful surroundings, if you are visiting Napier you MUST pay a visit to at least sample the wine in a very relaxed environment or dine in a newly refurbished restaurant, dine in or out. We had a table outside on a beautiful March afternoon...simply delightful menu and even more so delightful food and perfectly priced for such quality. Nothing is overpriced considering your surroundings. So didn't want it to end...but..living just down the road, we will be back as always.

Looking to book tickets for a concert at the mission estate winery, does anyone know if the general admission tickets are suitable for a person with reduced mobility - I.e unable to sit on the ground. Thank you in advance
Written 6 December 2022
I would not recommend buying such a ticket I would suggest that you buy a Reserved Seat

Hey there , are dogs allowed to sit with us dining outside?
Written 18 December 2019
Sorry I’m not sure about that. It is well worth asking them the question and well worth the visit.

So on reading that 2017 review on queues for 1 bottle of wine at a time, and shuttle buses being quite dismal, has all this been fixed for the 2019 concert?
Written 28 January 2019
Hi Suzanne,
Thanks for your message.
Naturally at any large scale event under the new licensing laws there are going to be queues, but our event organisers are working very hard to ensure time spent in lines is minimised.
The Nimons buses organised by the Mission will run to schedule for those that have booked these. Any other shuttles buses are run independently, but have been briefed regarding the event schedule.
We hope you have a wonderful time at the concert.

Hi there
just wondering if you could recommend a nice motel or hotel close to the Mission?
Written 28 January 2017
Hi Vivienne
We are currently staying at the Gardner Court motel, Nelson road, Napier. It's about 15 min drive from The Mission or about 12 km cycle ride from the isite in Napier. Gardner court comfortable, well equipped, clean and v peaceful and we have a really nice spacious unit backing on to the park and have a large personal bit of garden to sit in - weather permitting !
Enjoy the Mission it's amazing

Arriving on Oceania Insignia 8 am and leaving at 4...can't get any of the wine tours to work because of the hours. Do you think we could find a taxi to bring us out and then return for our pickup? By the way, what are your hours?
Written 15 May 2016
will i be picked up and dropped off at my hotel and how should i dress on this tour?
Written 4 March 2016
hi John,
You will need to make your own way to our winery. Napier is relatively small so in general it will only take 15-20 mins from the centre of town. There is also no dress code or requirements. We have had some hot weather lately so shorts and t-shirt might be the order of the day. If you have any more questions feel free to contact us on 845 9350
