There are lots of interesting (and free) things to see at the museum and some fun exhibits for the kids. If you are in town already it's worth popping in.

Taking my visitors to the Waikato Museum is always an interesting thing to do, not just on a rainy day. The waka is spectacular along with the carvings.

Its not Te papa but it is an informative museum that has a nice ambiance. Quite small it will only take a family an hour or so to walk round but it has some nice displays that are interesting for both adults and kids

Don't miss this jewel. It has a very interesting War exhibit. Milk Matters was cool, too. AND the dinosaurs move as you approach - pretty cool if you ask us.
