Explore an enchanting world of secret gardens.

Transport yourself through time and to far-flung corners of the world. Meander through a lush tropical jungle, visit ancient China and indulge yourself in a Renaissance Prince's 16th century garden. Five garden collections have been created to delight the senses, with some garden concepts reaching back 4,000 years.

Hamilton Gardens is a conceptual garden based in the Waikato that explores the context, history and meaning of gardens through time, and from around the world. It is internationally recognised for its unique concept and is the Waikato region's most popular tourist destination.

Only five minutes drive from Hamilton's CBD, the Gardens is open 7 days a week during daylight hours and entry and parking is free. Access is off SH1, alongside Cobham Drive on the southern side of Hamilton.

The gardens are beautifully maintained and well themed in every section you visit. Entrance and parking is free of charge, and the gardens are easy to navigate. We spent a few hours here with young children (6 yrs and 18-months) and they were entertained the entire time. There are plenty of places to stop and sit or have a picnic... More

I visited on a sunny afternoon. There are many themed gardens, the vegetable and walled fruit gardens were my favourite although the Tudor garden was fun. This makes a good half-day visit for all the family, there's shade and seating if required.

Gorgeous replicas of beautiful gardens from around the world. Well-maintained, beautiful settings with stunning plants and flowers, it was so nice walking through each one and I'm looking forward to visiting again once the new gardens are ready.

We have travelled extensively and visited botanical gardens all over the globe, but can honestly say that this is the finest garden we have ever seen. The quality of the plantings and the beauty of the settings were a joy to behold.

Hamilton isn't much of a tourist trap, but the gardens are definitely worth taking the time to go and see. We just stopped to fill some time but it was well worth it.

I initially gave this 4 stars but considering it's free it has to be 5. Fascinating beautiful gardens from the around the world. The only garden that made me feel less than inspired was the American garden. Concrete and a swimming/paddling pool. Probably not a fair reflection on American gardens but I guess there for diversity. A number of gardens... More

We stopped in Hamilton because we had some time to kill, ans we thought we'd walk around d the gardens to pass an hour. Do not make this mistake, they will at least take half a day and they deserve that. This place is incredible. The paradise collection is like nothing I've seen - 5 small gardens based on different... This is the best escape from the busy city life. I can't say anything bad about this beautiful place. Great thing to do is go there when you want some alone time, go to the map, point at a garden and spend at least 10-20 minutes just enjoying the garden or even just doing your own thing.
