We were pleased to find that this church was open so that we could explore the interior. Although it is late 19c, it has been built in a very traditional style so we enjoyed our visit. .

We attended the early service at this very nice Anglican Church in the Central Business District, near SkyTower. All persons greeted us as we walked into the building. Following the service we used a pamphlet to conduct a self guided tour. Pretty stained glass windows.

Beautiful church built by stones, also with big stained glass windows. Obviously is not comparable with the churches we have in Europe but it’s nice to visit.

We came to St Matthew in the City for one of their Sunday afternoon concerts. The Church itself looks quite nice. It has a second-floor balcony area that overlooks the church. the stairway is on the far right as you enter. The sides is covered with a vaulted corridor which looks nice while walking under it. The church is quite big. We didn't get to look around that much as the orchestra was preparing around the back of the church.

The first Anglican Church was on land acquired in 1843 and this church was finally commenced in 1902.It was an interesting stone building externally and in contrast to the many more modern offices and other buildings around. It was not open to see inside but impressive externally.

St. Matthew in the City is a big beautiful stone church with great stained glass. You don't need a lot of time to see it, and it's easy to reach. We really enjoyed our visit.

St Matthew-in-the-City. Christmas morning. The pews where filled with an engaged and enthusiastic congregation; a welcome sight with a mix of locals and visitors. The Sung Eucharist service was unforgettable, led by inspiring spiritual leaders, and the most glorious small choir. There were no concealed morning yawns. Instead, we didn’t want the perfectly compiled service to end. We left smiling and thankful we had chosen that church which had a joyful sense of Christ and community. I agreed with my husband; wishing we could still be in Auckland for another service.

If you happen to be up in the area of such and such streets, a peek inside this cool church is worth the time.

Although the interior seemed a little bit drab in my opinion with all the stone, the stained glass windows are magnificent to gaze at!
The 8 bulb chandeliers along the sides of the church were also unique and added to the very gothic infused place of worship.

The baptismal font at the front entrance was made entirely out of marble and it was just beautiful especially knowing that the entire unit had to be cut for this one specific design.

I liked the traditional arching of the stone pillars along the sides of the church and it was interesting how the organ pipes were only located along the right side of the church and not the left. (Not sure of the reasoning for this design).

Also, there was a small area on the left side of the church that had a small wooden alter with chairs around it, (and because I'm not Catholic), not really sure what this small area's function was for.

On the right hand side of the church, (the side where the organ pipes were located), another peculiar sight: the ceiling was made entirely of wood in one area only but not in the rest of the structure.

Even the front wooden doors of this cathedral were quite nice even down to the details of the door handles. Then there were the outer wooden doors which had the very cool black painted metal accents on them.

The exterior of the cathedral was really impressive with all the individually laid pieces of stone and the arched windows, and it's funny, but for one part of the back of the church reminded me a bit of a castle with it's columnar design.

Again, if you're in the area of where this church is located at, stop by and have a look as it was quite a nice stop for myself
