If you want a beach in Auckland don't just leave the city and stop at Mission Bay, continue on to St Heliers where the shops are more interesting the cafes are just as plentiful and the beach equally lovely without the crowds. Win! Win!

My classmate from teen hood oftentimes tell me about his daily swimming jaunts at St.Helier's Bay. Finally my wife and I paid him a visit to his 'backyard beach'. It was too cold for me to swim, so I had to admire it from the shore line. We had a sumptuous dinner of fresh fish & chips, savoured with pinot... More

Many bays in the area. Beautiful beaches with views of Rangitoto island. Cafes and eateries a plenty. Though bringing your own picnic may be less costly for a family. Bikes for hire is always fun.

St Helier's Bay beach is at the end of Tamaki Drive. It's a beautiful beach and does not play second fiddle to the nearer to the city beach of Mission Bay, for example and to be honest it is better as it's a bit quieter and in the heat of summer, there's more room here. There are also lots of... More

Holidaying in Auckland city? You can't do better than visit St.Helier's Bay; a reminder of early days in Auckland, with unspoiled coastline and a beautiful beach.

St Heliers is the last of the beaches on Tamaki Drive, furtherest from the city. Nice drive, walk or drive. Plenty of cafes, restaurants, some dress shops, shoe shop, jewellers, book shops, banks, green grocer, and an Auckland City Library. I believe the Police Station is now closed. Walking along the board walk is lovely. If you like hills, go... More

We became enchanted with St Heliers 20 years ago on a picnic at the beach and we stayed. This part of Auckland is wonderful for locals as well as visitors alike, with the quaint village style shops, the waterfront eating and the boardwalk for a saunter up and down. So we decided to stay in this part of town and... More

Love St Heliers and all it has to offer. Great restaurants and ice creams. Great local pub in Moretons. A real village feel
