Spread over 2 sites, aviation area & the technology & Pumphouse area connected by an old Melbourne tram service that ran about every half hour between venues. The aviation area had a strong NZ accent with some great planes on display. The technology area is divided into about 8 different areas each with a different focus. Lots of interactive things... Fantastic place for a visit. So much I have forgotten about is on display to jog the memory. We spent a lot of time talking about the things we saw. Aircraft museum is an eye opener, especially the Lancaster as it really brings home what those airmen had to endure to give us the lives we have today. MOTAT is... More

We went years ago and it was really dull with rows of old stuff. Now its awesome! It has heaps of interactive displays and activities for kids and adults alike. Younger kids loved the Telephones, interactive Trampoline and the Backyard BlockBusters whereas the older kids liked the Revolutions display, VR goggles and Bluescreen movies. We have been twice these school... More

Family of five (three kids aged 6-12) had a full day at MOTOT. The staff are super friendly and happy to engage with you. There are lots of interactive items and a good range of things to see and do. The Airplane part of the museum has more planes than the Air Force Museum in Christchurch, which is surprising. Food... More

While the airplane exhibit is quite good, the rest of MOTAT is quite hit or miss. The steam powered exhibit showed old machines working and the docent explained lots of things in detail. But with two big exhibit halls closed, there seemed to be even less to do than when we visited eighteen years ago. One building is completely empty... More

I'm a local and some of my European visitors thought it's worth to go to MOTAT. I don't think that the main exhibition is worth the money. Disappointing for a city like Auckland. Especially if you compare it to some places in Europe. The only highlight is the Aviation Hall. I guess it's better to go for a walk in... More

The older MOTAT area is in need of a spruce up . There are a number of interesting exhibits but the area is looking rather tired . However the Aviation Museum on the site past the Zoo is modern , well set up & has a great variety of planes & the information provided gives visitors an excellent insight into... More

The main MOTAT location is very average. There are displays about how machines work, a shabby looking model train set, a room of old telegraphs and phones, a shed of old trams that can't be properly seen. The only thing worth seeing here was the exhibition on Sir Edmund Hillary's trip to the South Pole in 1958 complete with original... More

Was taken to MOTAT by my Niece when visiting family in Auckland and was pleased we did as my children had a good day. Firstly I was pleasantly surprised with the entry fee which was $40 for a family of 4, this includes entry to the plane museum,a tram ride and entry to MOTAT itself. The plane museum is very...
