A well run steam railway. The round trip is just over an hour and that is hardly time enough to enjoy the ride. You can travel in the beautifully resorted covered carriages or outside for the full experience of travelling behind steam. The volunteer staff are friendly and knowledgable, particularly if you are a steam enthusiast, they enjoy sharing information... More

Great place for the family, steam train enthusiasts and history buffs. Its just under an hour out from Auckland city in a lovely rural setting, prices are ok and the train journey takes you to Waiuku when you can wander about the town and catch a later train back to Glenbrook. The staff are all volunteers and were polite and... More

What a exciting and educational place for children young and old, the sounds, smells and visuals all evoke a bygone era. If you are into railways, this is a great visiting spot, the trip from Glenbrook to Waiuku return is the highlight of the visit. Plenty of parking, areas for your picnic or use the onsite snack shop, a great... More

My partner and I had been meaning to come for a while and finally got the chance today. Was not disappointed. Would definitely recommend to the train lovers out there. Much more enjoyable than a particular ride we went on back in October that was more than triple the price. Well worth it and would definitely visit again :-)

We took our kids, their partners and our grandchildren here for a day out. It didn't break the bank and we ALL enjoyed it. We got lots of family photos and memories and hope to do it again the next time we can all be together.

The Glenbrook Vintage Railway is certainly the best preserved railway in the North Island and competes well with those found in the South Island and overseas. It will appeal to railway enthusiasts and family groups. I recommend an outbound trip from Glenbrook on an early train, explore Waiuku before having lunch, then returning on the stopping train in the afternoon.... More

We did the trip to Waiuku on the steam train with Diana as the engine. An authentic journey into the past for grandparents of our age as we recalled childhood train journeys and soot in the eyes and nose. The weekend we went was Lego Day with a working Lego train in one of the carriages on the train and... More

On a wet day in South Auckland rode the rails to Waiuku behind a chuffing fully restored tank steam locomotive. The volunteers have done truly amazing work on bringing this railway alive. Like stepping back into the 1920's. An included stop at their locomotive workshops shows a line up of locomotives both in running order and undergoing restoration work. A... More

Did a trip on the steam train as part of a tour group. Some of the group were able to travel up front with the driver for part of the trip - they all enjoyed that! It is a short trip in vintage carriages(even an open carriage), Stopped at the workshop on the way back to see other engines and... More
