Very good BUT check for hidden costs !!

Beautiful course and facilities. Enjoyable round of golf with stunning views. Course in reasonable condition. Staff friendly and helpful.
HOWEVER our party consisted of 2 golfers and respective partners. Therefore each cart had 1 golfer and 1 non player. When settling our bill we were charged for a 3rd cart. I thought this was a mistake and queried the charge. It was explained to me that each golfer had to have an individual cart and the 3rd cart charge was for the " spectators". I feel that this was unreasonable and didn't quite get the logic of the rationale. $36 not a huge amount of money but it is the principle of the matter.Go figure. If playing the course I would advise to check for any hidden costs !!

Top 50 for a reason
Dec. 2019 • Couples
Whilst visiting NZ for my Mom's 80th I casually browsed the net to see if the was a decent course in or near Napier with absolutely no expectations.

I was blown away to discover the Cape Kidnappers course on our doorstep, and immediately called expecting to be turned away due to the time of year.
All I can say is that from that moment on it was a 5-star country club experience.

My non-golfing wife rode along for the views and we were stunned by the beauty of the course and the stunning scenery.
The incredible drive from the gate through the farm sets the early tone and it just keeps getting better.

Sure it is pricey, but how often do you get to cross off a top 50 course according to Top 100 Golf Courses?

I played on a truly champaign day...I pity anyone in the slightest breeze!
I will have those views from the tee boxes etched in memory for a long time to come!

Experiencing Kidnappers a MUST for golfers.
Feb. 2020 • Friends
We have been waiting a year to play Cape Kidnappers; we were not disappointed.

Having booked we followed this app and were a little concerned on some of the reviews however; it was amazing from the opening of the gates to the journey home.

We were made very welcome on arrival and everything was explained to us.

Practice area very good; as was the pre drinks and light snack.

The course was amazing in condition, set up and challenges - greens very good, you should practice before you go out.

Oh, and take a camera - the views are amazing.

On returning to the Clubhouse the showers, shop and after drinks were very good even though we were the last in; also important is the value for money in the shop; sometimes not always the case.

Is it worth the green fees; it’s not always about the golf - service and quality are also very important, I have played other courses but the overall experience was amazing.

If you are golfer; Yes the course is very good.

If you are about experiencing playing the 22nd best golf course in the world and have the time to enjoy the overall experience; Definitely Yes..

Can’t wait to play it again...

Got be a World Beater

My holiday treat whilst touring N Island from the UK. I already knew that it is a 20 minute drive from the roadside security gate to the clubhouse. That in itself is a really pleasant experience. Arrived in good time and had a wonderful welcome from the guys in the Pro Shop. A great selection of hired clubs already on a buggy ready to go. As you might expect the changing rooms are very good and have complimentary supplies of sunscreen, insect repellents, shavers and shaving foam etc.
The driving range has complimentary balls and directs you into the prevailing wind just to get you going. Following a good practice with the unfamiliar clubs i was let loose on the course. Being a modest 20 handicapper I was advised to go off the green tees. This was a really good shout, as a 71 year old, I was only just making the carry over various ravines or areas of gorse to make it onto the fairway. The greens are really very slick and on a number of occasions I was delight to see my ball reach the green only to see it roll right across and off the other side into a bunker. The topography of the course is highly varied and extremely challenging. If you suffer from vertigo it is not a place to go with fairways and greens really quite close to 100m cliffs directly down to the beaches below. I was also really intrigued by the varied birdsong knowing that the gannet colony below numbers approximately 17,000. The longest hole is well over 600 yards and the elation of getting to the green in four shots can only be imagined. On another level, a really nice touch was that a nice young lady came out from the club house when i was on the 10th tee to ask me what I would like to order for lunch when i had finished.
I have no idea how much this little escapade cost me as it was adsorbed into my total tour cost. However I suspect there might not have been a lot of change from $800 or even more. I was a once in a lifetime experience.

Stunning Golf Course
Jan. 2020 • Couples
My husband played the course & loved it. I walked along as I don’t golf. We had lunch in the club house before hand. The food was exceptional.
The course is very challenging but is stunningly beautiful with many vistas & plunging cliffs. The staff were very friendly. They didn’t have a problem with me walking along on the course. I think it is a must do for any golfer.

They want to stay exclusive, let them. Overpriced.
Dec. 2019 • Solo
Wanted to play this course after seeing the stunning pictures of the cliffs. The holes are interesting, there are sea views on the front nine and spectacular cliffs on the back 9. It is in my view a good golf course. But they obviously want to stay very exclusive with their pricing (+USD500). I say let them and do not go out of your way to play here.

Overpriced but scenic
Dec. 2019
Cape Kidnappers Golf Club is a nice track, very scenic and in good condition, but extremely overpriced. The views and service are not nearly as good as some other similarly priced courses like Old Head and Pebble Beach. There was no GPS in the carts and my rental clubs for $80 only included 13 clubs, with a very banged up driver! And no complementary balls or anything. Locker room was decent but no restaurant. It’s about a 15-20 minute drive from the main road to the golf course on a very dangerous, winding, mostly one lane road. All in all an enjoyable round of golf but not worth half what I paid.

Only 13 rental clubs driver all beat up - for $80!

no gps in carts

Nice course in good condition with good service but way overpriced

some nice views but not as nice as other courses like old head

Expensive But Spectacular
Apr. 2019 • Couples
My wife and I had a fantastic round of golf at Cape Kidnappers in broken cloud low wind conditions( I suspect it always blows some there) on April 17, 2019. It was the most we ever paid for a round of golf, but wow was it spectacular.

After experiencing the somewhat adventurous private windy road entrance to this exclusive Bay of Plenty coastal setting, we at the suggestion of pro/starter got out ahead of our 11 o’clock tee time( avoided a foursome), to have the course to ourselves for our entire round. We played the front nine in an hour and half, and we enjoyed a tasty lunch from a patio overlooking the ninth green before continuing on to the back nine.

It is a challenging layout masterfully weaving its way throughout the hills, dales, plateaus, and coastal cliffs of this majestic property. The course requires a number of shots over chasms, but all in all it was very payable.

The driver was in play throughout the wide but at times sloping fairways, and we enjoyed the wide variety of the approach shots to the greens.

The course was in great shape, and the greens although undulating in spots are fair and true to the reads.

The views, especially from a number of well placed cliff hanging greens, are breathtaking!!!

This world class course is one of the absolute best we have ever played.

Service is everything at this up market golf course

The private road to enter this course is aound 8km long which helps to inculcate a feeling of being somewhere special. There is a Lodge on course where you can stay but we located off course near Havelock North at a much cheaper rate. The course had plenty of challenges and a windy day is especially challenging to try and keep your ball on the green - do not delay your putt or the wind will require a chip to start again. Bring a dozen spare balls because the gullies and wind will eat a good few of your balls. The Lodge prepares your lunch offering and transports these to the Club house to enjoy after your game. Felt special to play this course and thoroughly enjoyed the game and the meal and hospitality in the Club house after the game

Feel it is a bit over-rated.
Feb. 2019 • Couples
Played the course on a day with pretty bad weather (strong winds and some nasty horizontal rain) which probably had some impact on the rating. For 7 HC like myself it was almost impossible to play with ball coming to a standstill on the green and a gust of wind rolling it off. Advice: dont even get on the course if the weather is like that. The front 9 has some pretty boring holes like the starting hole. There is literally nothing interesting about it. Back 9 more interesting on the cliffs but feel the green fee is way too steep. Played kauri cliffs the week before and felt thats a much better course with many interesting holes and beautiful views. Very friendly and helpful staff at the clubhouse and loved the lodge feeling of the place.
