Actually, there is a well done monument to the filming of lotr. The day before, while on Mount Victoria in Wellington I heard someone complain that Rivendell (you did know that was mostly filmed here right?) Was just a couple of trees... well, I can sure you that it is slightly more than that, but not OTT (look it up).... More

Loved the gorgeous scenery in this park. Visited the area which was the actual film location for Rivendell in Lord of the Rings. A wonderful experience!

a sunny spring day we decided to go for a wAlk in the park by the river. Lots of people took the opportunity too. Decided to take a look at the Rivendell gate that's been installed for awhile now there was a tour group there wow!! 15years after the movie it's still popular!

Beautiful park with some great walks. It also has bbq area and camping site. Riverdell part of this park area was used in the movie set "Lord of the rings", most of it has been removed from the park, but information about the filming is there for fans to read...and the area is now perfect for picnic.

It's a nice drive into the park. Park in the car park and the old swing bridge is off to your right. Cross it and wander amongst typical New Zealand native bush. Learn about the ecosystem and study some true tall giants of the forest. Huge Northern Rata trees. Walk over bridges and see the Hutt River winding its way... More

Some lovely short walks through forest with great views of the river gorge. We did a loop around, coming back past the LOTR Rivendell set, which has a few info signs and photo opportunities.

About 20 minutes north of Upper Hutt off State highway 2. Free access. Stunning nature walks through New Zealand bush with a lovely river running through, perfect for a swim during the summer. Part of the Lord of the Rings was filmed here so can check out some of the scene locations. Still some props there with info to learn... More

Camping ground is really nice (hudge, plenty of grass, toilets, water) and also surroundings are nice (waterfall, river, plenty of birds). Good place to stay and walk a little. We really enjoyed this place.

My favourite Park in Upper Hutt. Great for a family picnic. There are lots of tracks and if you are into tramping you have lots of options on how to explore the park. Everywhere is marked and the tracks are relatively easy to do.
