Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I are big Lord of the Rings fans and we were so excited to come visit here. We learned a lot of really interesting behind the scenes stories while on the Rover Rings tour that comes here. This was where they filmed part of the the Great River Anduin and the only location the actors were actually in the boats.

We feel so glad to live near to the Hutt River Path. So far we have walked or rode at various times from Hikoikoi at the mouth to Melling and Boulcott, from the Silversteam Bridge back to Lower Hutt, and sections around Totara Park. Good flat walking or riding with high quality paths. Great for children and accessible by public transport.

There are so many directions you can go along the river bank and experience different scenery. We have ridden bikes twice along the banks. One way from Block road carpark out to Manor Park (16 km return) had a few twists and turns, small banks to ride up and down and so it was a bit of a challenge for novice bikers. The other direction from block road out to seaview had a gravel river path (quite deep at times) and a concrete path. we chose the later path as the gravel was unpredictable beside the river. great ride out to seaview and you chang sides of the river once you are over the bridge so you can go a different route back to your start point. Great swimming in the river, lots of shallow spots and a few deep parts too.

I grew up swimming in hutt river. Unfortunately now you have to check if safe for swimming. There are times when the algae levels impacts on safety. There is a great swimming hole near Kennedy good bridge. Love it.
The fruit and vege market is on Saturday morning. This is in hutt river carpark. Great place for cheap veges. You can buy coffee and takeaways to have while shopping.
Walking along river bank is good in parts. Biking on bank is great. Great way to spend a day.

You will most likely pass this river anyway of you are going in and out of Wellington, make sure you mark Moonshine Road and Totara Park which is a few minutes north of Moonshine Road because this is where they used for filming and its very obvious that this is part of the movie. If you don't get out to walk, you can take pictures from the car driving as you will drive right along this river. You can tell where to start looking at the river because you will cross o bridge driving out of Wellington going North and right when you drive over the bridge, the Hutt River is all of a sudden on your left side instead of your right. This is when Moonshine road begins.
