Beautiful place and reasonably easy walk, very relaxing and soothing. Did it for about 3 or 4 days last year, and if have time will go back again. Definitely worth a visit. Watch out though, although good to have a swim in the lake but...More

Stunning scenery, manageable for most levels of fitness. 4 days out of phone reception, walking through forest & along lake edge, interspersed with daily swims - bliss! Don't forget DEET for the sandflies. Rats & possums often near huts so food needs to be wrapped...More

Lake Waikaremoana is absolutely stunning. Our first day up the Bluff from the Onepoto shelter to Panekiri hut saw us ascend the side of bluff covered in beautiful magical forest. When we arrived at the hut we were literally in the clouds! There is a...More

I went there to do one of the great walks. I made the mistake of coming from wrong side and did a 70 km drive along unsealed road - it was pretty rough in places. Got there and some major building works going on. Large...More

Hiked around this lake with a group of friends...starting at Onepoto. Day one was a good slog uphill to the first hut, with wonderful views and spots to stop for lunch. Hut 1 was quite basic (for a great walk hut) but satisfactory. Day two...More
