Did this hike over NYE with Walking Legends and had the time of my life. Great guides - genuine kiwis and perfect hosts, we had a ball. No hope of losing any weight on this trip - the food was just too good. The scenery...More

I spent essentially just under 24hrs in this location and stayed overnight at the Waikaremoana Holiday Park. Has showers, toilets and a kitchen. On check-in, I even got a complimentary bag of lollies (sweets to you Brits). The hosts were very friendly and knowledgeable. Booking...More

We did this walk with Walking Legends and it was fantastic. They provided all the food, organised all the transport and all we had to do was show up. Seeing in new years in the nature bush was great too with all the other trampers....More

The lake has plenty of trails and is really a great experience. Bushes, waterfalls, rivers, all worth a full day of trekking. DO NOT MISS Lou's Lookout path, 45 mins return walk which will astonish you both for the walk and the final lookout. A...More

If you want to experience a pure, tranquil New Zealand hike, do the Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk! It is a comparably easy hike doable in three or four days. There is only one relatively difficult and long climb and descend, the majority is flat and...More

This was my first great walk in NZ (in a group of 7) and first self guided camping carrying a full backpack (previous hikes was with a porter). It was fairly physically tiring on mainly the 1st day but there was ample time for rest...More

Beautiful scenery, well signposted, well-maintained facilities. The first part up to Panekire Hut is strenuous - and it was a hot day when we did it - so bring a hat and top up your water. Stunning views over the lake are your reward. The...More
