Fresh clean and pristine

We were lucky as kids to camp and have this beautiful lake as our swimming pool and back yard. You would always feel refreshed when dipping in the lake clean, clear and serene.

Beautiful Lake

A very beautiful blue lake with the volcano at the rear. Lots of watersports and great walking around the lake.

Beautiful scenery
Jan. 2020 • Couples
We stayed for 1 night in Taupo and went for an evening walk around the edge of the lake - the scenery is stunning and there seems to be a lot to do there, even though it was all closing up when we walked round.

The flies are the only off-putting thing but you get them anywhere near water, just remember to take/apply bug spray!

Lake Taupo

Beautiful scenery. This lake is a volcanic crater. It is massive. Iced capped mountain. Great for water sports and families.

Mesmerizing Beauty
Dec. 2018 • Solo
I happened to pass by Lake Taupo on a bus journey from Wellington to Rotorua and was mesmerized by it’s beauty. The lake is quite expansive and the geography of it’s surroundings changes significantly as one passes by. It was not in my plan to spend a few days in Lake Taupo, which I do regret but I’ll certainly stay around Lake Taupo, during my next visit to North Island in New Zealand. Several water related activities are available at Lake Taupo as well.

Great for volcano fans

Knowing that this is the site of one of earth's 18 supervolcanoes, I was anxious to see it. Around 26,500 years ago, during the Oruanui eruption, Taupo dumped 280 cubic miles of material on to the land and into the atmosphere. Pumice and scoria are easy to find around the lake's edge. I floated a piece of pumice on the water -- way cool!

absolutely beautiful

We stayed here a few nights, at my Uncle's house on the lake. Really pretty place, you can go for drives, go up the mountain, see snow, see Huku Falls, go jet boat riding, look through the shops. Great town :)

Vast creation of Nature - another wonder
May 2019 • Couples
This Lake is huge - in fact the largest in New Zealand. We stooped by the Lake side for a Photo Shoot on our way from Rotorua to Wellington. You can also see snow clad mountains behind the Lake. This Lake was created due to a volcanic eruption many many years ago. The volcanic ash, turned into very light stones, can be found in plenty here. The stones are porous and that makes them very light. Its a beautiful Lake surrounded by natural beauty in abundance.
