Fettlers Crossing is a lovely little find. There is a large limestone studio equipped with a kitchen and bathroom, heaps of room, and it was perfect for our long table BBQ meal, and there were plenty of comfy beds. The kids enjoyed exploring the creek and patting the horses.

We are visiting Australia for the first time from the USA and highly recommend a visit to Forge Riding School for anyone looking for an authentic horseback ride in the bush. Our guide had tons of patience with our numerous questions and was a true delight. My horse, Pete, was a character. He didn’t like the other horses but loved people so it was super funny. I bonded with him right away. Forge Farm is definitely an authentic Aussie experience I’d recommend to anyone looking for a cool thing to do in the Perth area.

I have never written a bad review before but wanted to share my experience so others don't have the same experience. I rang Wendy and organised a PRIVATE trail ride as I had not ridden in a while and wanted to be able build my confidence over the ride. I am an experienced rider who had done 5 years of lessons, pony club and equestrian as well as owning my own horse for 5 years and was very clear that I was not interested in a hour of walking in a group trail ride environment. We rang the morning of the ride to get the address. Upon arrival Wendy didn't even acknowledge or say hello to us. When we found our way to the right area she introduced us to the 'others in the group'. So even though she was fully aware that I booked a PRIVATE ride, she did not contact me to ask if I would be okay if they made it a group ride (I wasn't) nor did she mention it when she we contacted her that morning. So after being ignored on arrival and meeting 'the group' I was then told to go and get my helmet from the tack shed, no instruction on where that was or assistance to ensure I had the right gear. On the phone Wendy raved about how beautiful the ride would be with all the 'wild flowers' out and even remarked when we got there that this was a particularly good year for them, the trail itself is dull and the view mostly of powerlines, burnt trees and a massive water pipeline - I see more wildflowers on a walk around my suburban block. The ride consisted on 95% walking and 5% trotting, exactly what I said on the phone I did not want. I spoke to one of the group who was in a similar position to me and I asked her what she thought of the ride and she also thought it was too slow for our experience level. Never at any point in the ride did Wendy ask if we would like to canter (although I took it upon myself to do so as this is what I was paying $65.00 for), in fact once the ride started apart from asking if we would like to trot for all of 50 meters on 3 occasions she did not speak to us at all. After a hugely disappointing ride when we arrived back she largely ignored us and didn't communicate at all what she wanted done with the horse. I have never had a worse trail riding experience. If you are a beginner and are happy to walk the whole time this might be okay for you, however if you are an experienced rider who actually wants to experience the beauty of being one with the horse in motion then this is definitely NOT the place for you. I couldn't get away from the place quick enough and would not recommend it, which is a shame because several of my friends were also looking for a place to ride and should it have been a positive experience I could have put more business Wendy's way.

We started super late in the day - scheduled to start around 9.30 and ended up starting 10.30/11. It was quite dull - walking 98% of the time even though my mum and I have years of riding experience with all paces. Not sure if this is standard. The place is lovely and horses well cared for and would be good for beginners.

Thank you for your feedback and sorry for my late response. It is rather difficult to reply as I cannot tell from your review exactly which ride you went on. For this reason I am always pleased if riders discuss their concerns with me so that I can, hopefully, make amends it the experience has not been a good one. I have checked with my staff and they cannot recollect any ride running one to one and a half hours late. However, if this was the case then please accept my apologies for this as I agree it is unacceptable, and not something that would usually happen. I cannot tell from your review if it was a group ride or a private ride for just you and your Mum, however, if it was a private ride then we are happy to go as fast as our clients are capable of riding. The safety of the rider and the comfort of the horse is our chief concern. You would be amazed at the amount of people who assure us they are competent riders, and when we discover that this is not the case are disappointed when we refuse to go any faster than a walk as it is our responsibility to ensure they do not get injured in a fall. If it was a group ride then, of course, we must ride to the lowest level of experience on the ride. For this reason we ask potential riders to discuss their expectations with me prior to making a booking so we can discuss and thus avoid disappointment.

Booked this trip for my birthday and it was perfect. Wendy was on holiday so Corrina had Tez helping her out, both where really nice ladies, so helpful and friendly.
We met at forge farm a bit before 3pm and headed off on the two hour trail ride to the converted barn that we stayed in, which could easily sleep 6 people. Awaiting us at the barn was a lovely meal Corrina had cooked for us along with a bottle of wine and some cheeses in front of the lit fire. The place we slept was really warm and comfortable and provided the perfect amount of privacy and tranquility.
We really enjoyed the evening and then rode back in the morning. The horses where lovely and this trip was well worth the money, really great value and would recommend it to everyone.
The ladies where so helpful hardworking and knowledgable I would highly recommend this riding school. Had a great time away from the city.

We came to Forge Farm to celebrate our daughters 6th bday. Best afternoon, very relaxing walking through the forest. Weather was perfect. Wendy & Corinna were lovely and very helpful. Great location. Twix, Jerry, Hamish & Paddy were such gentle, calm beautiful horses and we'd highly recommend Forge Farm to anyone. Will definitely be returning 😊

We took 7 kids plus my daughter up to Forge Farm for her 11th Birthday. They all did the Golden Gumnut activity which was excellent. The kids loved it and the staff were very helpful and made the activity fun. We then stayed overnight at Wendy's (the owner) studio. This was situated 10 km away on 20 acres. The kids had a blast and the accommodation was fab for this type of event.

Went here yesterday with our disabled daughter. Phoned ahead to check everything would be ok and book ahead. Left a message on the answer machine and was contacted back within an hour. When we arrived the location was fantastic and the people on the farm were great and really welcoming. My wife and daughter both rode while I side walked my daughter, we had a very nice trek through the woods.
We plan to visit again before we leave Perth and would highly recommend the trip to Forge Farm.

Fantastic day out surprise for my wife's 46 Birthday present. Arrived and greeted by owner and chaperone. Helped to kit out horses before setting off on a 2 hour ride through the Perth Hills. Felt very comfortable and at ease with the horses taking in the quiet rolling countryside. Finished the day with an included meal at Chidlow Tavern. Quaint and very welcoming. Lovely ribs, chips and salad washed down with complementary local wine and shandy.
Would highly recommend to anyone wanting this kind of activity.
