If you visit, make sure you catch the Sunset reflection on the back glass of the Shepherds Door. Another Masterpiece from the Creative talents of Antonio at the Battistessa Studio in the Swan Valley. Love the way that in June/July the actual sunset appears in the Sun and rays of the door.
Best photo op around then.

St Mary's Cathedral is a centre of Catholic church life in Western Australiia. St Mary's is built in Neo-Gothic style. It is an outstanding ecclesiatical structure, one of the most impressive in Perth. St Mary's is located in Victoria Square, a prime city location. St Mary's is avalable for inspection and worship, please check on times.

Attended a funeral for a friend here and the service was very warm and loving. It was a great send off , the building is beautiful and very well maintained - not as old as some places but it does feel grandeur inside. I Would like to attend a service here one day.

It is sad that the reason for your visit to the Cathedral was for the funeral of a friend however I do thank you for taking the time to review. You are very welcome here at any time whether it be to attend a service, some prayer and quiet reflection or to gaze at the stunning architecture.

An icon of Perth , the stat's largest church, located at Victoria avenue, is the mother church of Catholic and seat of the Archbishop of Perth. It had a humble beginnings in 1865 but has developed into a stunning beauty.

My Mother took us to Mass here when we were children, it was a spiritual and hallowed place.
We visited again last week to see the extension with trepidation and unfortunately our fears were justified. Our beautiful Cathedral has been destroyed. We really tried to like it, we really did, sadly it was impossible. When this was in the planning stage, those who were concerned about the renovation/addition were howled down and there was no consultation with the public. The Italians knew how to preserve and restore thousands of years ago, why is it impossible to get it right today. Sadly 30 million dollars have been spent on the ruin of our St. Mary's, awful, tasteless, altar, stations of the cross and the background lighting is a horror. What a terrible shame.

This cathedral was located in a quiet part of Perth (as I experienced that Sunday morning) and it was surrounded by walkways and gardens. It had a very serene atmosphere and I found myself speaking in hushed tones while inside, although there was no mass or prayers going on. The holy water font was a big one (probably doubled as a baptismal font) and there were artwork (blue glass) next to it. The pews were arranged in four sections. The ceiling was so high that I craned my neck to look at it. Mass there was a worthwhile experience, added to by the soloist who inspired reverence with her dulcet tones. Catholics must visit this cathedral if visiting Perth...!

I last visited in 2017 when a church service was in progress and attended by quite a large congregation. On this occasion the Covid restrictions were a plus, security at the entrance, perhaps only a dozen worshippers present, this allowed me to more closely admire the beauty of the interior, the artwork and architecture of different generations. The Cathedral dates to 1853 when Bishop Rosendo Salvado laid the foundation stone. The building was enlarged in 1926 with Bishop Clune laying the foundation stone but due to the Great Depression and the resultant financial implications, work remained incomplete until 2006 when Archbishop Hickey embarked on a conservation and completion programme. Works completed in 2009, the magnificent structure that I visited last week reopened. Worth visiting irrespective of religious beliefs.

Thank you for visiting the Cathedral and for your review. We hope you return to Perth and have the chance to visit us again. I am glad you found the Cathedral a good place to relax as we try and balance the needs between devotion and liturgical requirements, private prayer, tourism and a quiet place for personal reflection or recharging. We look forward to seeing you again.
