We (3) arranged an independent hire of 1 DBL and 1 SGL sea kayaks to use at Shoalwater Marine Park. Tom was excellent with taking the telephone booking and payment for next day hire, and very accommodating. All immediately confirmed with an email confirmation. Great price and so much fun.

The next morning 0845, we met the van and guide to help receive our kayaks off the trailer. After a how to and area brief, we were off. The day of hire we had very clam water, with little swell and light off shore winds. The water is very clear and we enjoyed paddling around the islands, seeing the wildlife and snorkeling at the rear of Penguin island. Even had a friendly seal come bounding over to our kayak to say hello. Amazing!

Return at 1400 was very easy. We were back before the tour group, and as we were physically capable, we loaded the equipment back onto the trailer, and confirmed to Tom with a quick call. Really liked the choice of guided tour or independent hire, as we like to do our own thing at our own pace. Rivergods made it all very easy. I would highly recommend the experience to anyone visiting the area. Plenty of space in stowage for lunch, water, sunblock, camera, snorkel gear, shoes etc.

From start to finish our experience was excellent. Emailed an enquiry on Saturday and Tom responded by phone within a short time and was easy to communicate with and work out what was best for our needs. Booking done and all we had to do was turn up the next day for our "Paddle Pass" which we had the choice of morning or afternoon for 3 hours. Liam was there when we arrived and quickly got us organised with a double kayak, paddles, life jackets and waterproof bag as well as lots of good advice for our independent trip up the Canning River. Once on the water we were treated to perfect conditions on this sheltered river so very easy to paddle and would be great for families. Because of the ultra calm water we were able to easily paddle about 4-5km (9-10km return) past Nicholson Road bridges as far as the old slalom poles, with plenty of time to stop and look at the birds and even a few long necked turtles which plopped into the water. Back at Kent St Weir, Liam helped carry our kayak up to the trailer and we had a good chat about what we'd seen on the river. Great value at $30 per person for 3 hours.

Fantastic experience! I highly recommend Rivergods and would definitely tour with them again. Very professional and well organised, catering for those (me) with zero experience kayaking. Saw the beautiful sea lions and penguins up close and enjoyed a lovely healthy picnic lunch on the island, followed by a swim/snorkel in the ocean.

Incredibly disappointing experience. I booked the kayak hire at Shoalwater Bay to go with my young daughter. We drove over an hour to get to the meeting place to find that the address provided was wrong. When we finally got to the right place the operator was unhappy because he had brought a kayak and life jackets for adults only. I told him there is nowhere in the booking to enter the ages of participants to which he replied there most certainly is. Even today, there still is not. He said I should’ve booked direct, but still today bookings are accepted through Adrenaline. The pictures on Adrenaline show younger children so I expected this information wasn’t critical. We changed the kayak to a smaller one, but he was so disorganised he didn’t even have spare children’s life jackets. He put her in an adult’s life jacket, did it up tight and said it would be fine. We went to the water and I made a silly mistake when jumping on the kayak and we tipped over. The water was very calm and it wasn’t a big deal but the operator came along and said he was cancelling the hire. I think he was concerned about his liability if something went wrong and he had put a child in an adults life jacket. Still, his manner was quite rude, never accepting any responsibility for the wrong address, unspecifiable ages or incorrect life jackets.
The person running the experience was disorganised and rude. A refund was given for the experience but nothing to compensate for the day or petrol that was wasted.

Dear readers please be assured we care about our clients and part of that means if someone demonstrates suffcient incompetence to indicate they will be a danger to themselves ( or any children they bring along) we will politely refuse the hire and refund the cost . We pointed out the person could take the nearby ferry to Penguin Island and have a nice day with his child but it seems he was more interested in having something to complain about than the safety and enjoyment of his own child. Reflecting on this might be of benefit.

We used the paddle pass service, hiring Rivergods kayaks at Canning River. The company sets you up with gear and friendly advice and then off we paddled. It is so relaxing and peaceful, like a bushwalk on water. We saw more birds and their young than other people, a lovely calm morning. Very safe, 10 year old managed his own kayak well in the calm conditions.

The Canning is most certainly a standout location for a paddle, we're glad you enjoyed it as much as we do! Thank you for your review.

This is a great way to enjoy penguin island. Pick up on time and then a trip on the kayaks to sea the sea lions . It’s amazing how close you get . We then headed to penguin island and had a informational tour of everything we saw. Penguin feeding was great and the lunch was much needed after a busy morning. Snorkelling and sunbathing completed our time before we headed back to shore. Shout out for Karl and his help during the trip . Recommended.

I made a reservation for a kayak to be delivered at a certain place at a certain time. Rivergods confirmed and charged my credit card. Two days before the day of my reservation they said I had to either pay an extra $50 or my reservation was cancelled. Obviously, I wasn't going to pay an extra $50 (which they never said was a possibility when I initially booked) and my weekend plans were totally ruined. Thanks for nothing Rivergods.

Initially we booked for the Shoalwater Islands tour, however due to bad weather forecasts it was changed to a full day tour of the Canning River.

I can tell you that the Canning River did not deserve a full day tour. We felt that RiverGods artificially extended the tour so they wouldn't have to refund the difference between the tours ($129 vs $65). The "Extra Special" part was us being taken further up the river and down through more polluted waters, plus a lunch that looked like it purchased from a petrol station.

We would have preferred to do the half day tour and at least be given credit to then use on the Shoalwater Islands tour at a later date, however management tried to justify the "Extra Special" tour as being an adequate substitution. Not surprisingly, it was a less than adequate experience.

The family enjoyed the adventure.
Seals and Penguin and an unexpected bonus - Dolphin was what we encountered during our trip.

Glenn was superb and take care of us very well especially during the round island kayaking.

A trip I would gladly recommend to my friends to try when they are in Perth.

Keep it up.

In response to the post of 17 Jan...

I was a member of the group who posted about the extra $50 being charged.

Each member of our group booked their kayaks individually. When the first kayay was hired, delivery of the kayak to our departure point (30km away) was offered free because there were a couple of spaces left on a trailer being used for another delivery. When our final numbers grew to four, there was not enough room on the trailer and Rivergods contacted our organiser to advise that we'd now need to book a trailer just for ourselves at a total cost of $50, to be shared between the four hirers ($12.50 ea). Our organiser then cancelled the entire booking and let us know after the fact.

Rivergods contacted me personally with an apologetic explanation of what had transpired and told me they'd held my reservation for the kayak in case I still wanted to hire it, but also offered a full refund if I didn't want to continue.

They were totally professional, polite and helpful. I'm sorry they've been on the receiving end of such anger. This whole thing was nothing more than a miscommunication about a kind offer of free transport to begin with.
