Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We didn't have any young ones with us but still appreciated and enjoyed sections of this area, particularly the flora and the natural bushland area. We entered from May Drive, our map indicating the public zone and the attractions and activities available.
The kiddies can get real dirty and then clean off by wading through the water. They can build cubbies and test their skills in rock and rope climbing. For some reason the advertising literature points out that it is not a playground or picnic area, well, could have fooled us with some of the activities. The map also identifies the 'Education" area, accessible only by booking as a group. Closed Mondays.

Pros:
- Very good place to introduce young kids to nature. Let them play in river, explore things, walk on the giant log, climbing tower and much more
- Well maintained, clean park
- The playground is pretty big take around 2-3 hours to do all activities
- Its free
- As far i knew there’s one public toilet within the facility. Its clean and big.
- theres a drinking fountain and place to wash foot
Cons:
- the terrain is not recommended for someone who’s using wheelchair or baby chair
- the playground can be challenging for young kids. Parents guidance is very important here
- not place to visit during rainy day since most area is open space and can be very muddy and slippery
- closed every monday for maintenance
- no fending machine or shop within the facility
- no ranger/ security within the facility. You need to look after yourself and your family here
Notes:
- always bring sun lotion the place can be very hot during day time
- wear convenient clothes and shorts for climbing and explorinh
- bring towel and swim pants if your kids want to play on the river area. However the river place is not a place for swimming, drinkin and splashing water. Only feet level allowed
- within the sign of facility, it states not allowed to bring anykind of ball and the place is not for family picnic
- dont forget to bring drinks
- you can visit the playground either by car or using bus no.935 and walk little bit to the playground

Definitely a great place for kids- they can get outdoors, up close and personal with rocks, water and nature. Expect them to get wet. Take a picnic and enjoy a day in Kings Park - free and magical entertainment for all ages.

We came here on a Monday, and a sign said that it was closed due to a severe weather warning. The weather was calm, sunny, and beautiful all day. Some other people also arrived, expecting this to be open, and left disappointed.
Judging from some other reviews, perhaps this is closed every Monday. If that is the case, the signs should clearly indicate this. It's confusing to have a sign at the entrance state that it's closed due to a severe weather warning, when the weather is beautiful, and no bad weather is in sight for days. Improved management is needed.

I have to agree witih an earlier review by Andy W - "Corporate-controlled nature" is a very apt descriptor. On a rainy afternoon I took my 4 1/2 year old son and dog for a walk through Kings Park with the intent of going to Naturescape. On arrival we were bailed up by one of the 'custodians' pointing out our small dog on a lead could not enter the 'scape' nor my son's balance bike. Fair enough but then looking at the pamphlet they handed out, my son asked me to explain the litany of red forbidden signs on the document - no throwing rocks, no balls, no camping, no umbrellas, no chairs, no picnics, no immersion in water, no pets, no scooters, no bikes, no skateboatds, no playing without parental supervision..you get my drift. I understand the need for these prohibitions but at the same time it takes the egde of what is supposed to be a natural experience. Enjoying nature should be organic and just happen - not manufactured in a controlled setting. If this is the future for our children then I am very concerned. You are better off visiting one of our local national parks (e.g. John Forrest) and enjoy nature as it was intended.

I wandered over to the Rio Tinto Naturescape area whilst in Kings Park today, as I've been in Perth for a little while now and hadn't checked out the Rio Tinto area of the park yet.
Unfortunately it's closed for refurbishment until late 2017.
So if you were planning to visit, hold off until it reopens in late 2017.

Great park. There is a water feature that children can play in. They can make houses out of sticks and branches. There is a rope tree climbing area. Toilets are also on site.

I came here with my 2 younger cousins and it was a blast!
I'm usually more of the hang around and chat or take nature pictures type but this place looked like so much fun, i was definitely up for some running around!
We spent a good 4 hours here running about, skimming rocks and playing hide and seek.
An awesome BBQ day for the whole family =)

Once we found our way in the front (coming from Stickybeaks you can't get in the back) we wandered on 'natural' concrete paths to see a constructed stream and some stones you could at least climb on and even a log across a stream that the kids could walk across. There were some cool areas where you could build a shelter, there is a mini big tree climb, and you can puzzle where the massive boulders at the entrance came from (but there's no information to tell you). You could always see the boundary fence and there was a long lists of things you couldn't do. I guess once the big corporations have bought the entire planet this is what we will have to look forward to, a small fenced off area of 'nature' . Go for a bush walk in the rest of the Park.

It is necessary to make a booking before visiting Naturescape or can we do without and simply explore the place on our own?

Hi there, it's inside Kings Park which is free to enter. All parks are free inside and no booking necessary. Enjoy.
