Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great place... lots of fun and really interesting. The tour guide was great even with lots of people. Highly recommended if you are in Perth. If you want to buy bullion there is a bit of a wait and they are a bit naughty charging fees for overseas cards (even though they may not be charged). Overall though fab visit.

Firstly you spend nearly half an hour outside by the entrance either standing or sitting on stone steps or a wall while a "guide" tried to tell you about how gold was discovered in WA. This is complete with (obvious) plastic replicas of large nuggets. The guide on my tour will never have a career as a stand up comedian and I dread to think what it's like if it rains (bad enough in the heat).
Then you traipse down to a "vault" where the vagaries of an AUS $1 million coin are explained (be still my beating heart). The guide then disappears for about 20 minutes to get suited up for the "piece de resistance", the gold nugget pouring.
This is little more than pouring a hot liquid into a mould and cooling it. Hey ho. You do get a chance to stamp a copper medallion in memory of your visit (oh the thrill).
There are however many, many opportunities to buy gold jewellery or other artifacts at prices which seem to me to be somewhat higher than normal retail. In fact the place is more like a large jewellers shop than a historical site.
Wouldn't bother if I were you.

Our 2nd visit since 2008 and it has changed for the better. The gold pouring was the highlight of our visit, amongst others. One could also try and lift a gold ingot with one arm.
They also had a variety of coins, which one could purchase.
Our guide was fantastic

Loved the tour and viewing a gold pour. Easily booked our tour online.
The only issue we had was that the tour began out the front, in the garden, and there was limited sun shade available. Not ideal in summer and the heat.

Fascinating and well-conducted tour by a very personable guide named Amelie. Very informative with plenty of gentle humour and interesting stories. Amelie did a fabulous job pouring liquid gold into a solid bar while explaining the whole process clearly (it cannot be that easy!!) and making sure she and everyone else stayed very safe. Amelia also made sure that anyone who needed a front-row seat (no stairs) had access, which was great. We all had a great view of the pouring and then had a go trying to lift a solid bar (nope) and finding out our exact worth in gold. We also received a token to “mint” ourselves in a machine at the end of the tour. The tour runs for 50 minutes. It starts outside for a few minutes it there is shade under the umbrellas. There is ramp access and bathrooms. There is a small bench-seat in the main area and auditorium benches in the smelting room. Unfortunately, no cafe but I was given access to a chilled water dispenser so that was great. I bet they’d do well if they served tea and coffee! There’s a gift-shop at the end, which can be accessed without the tour also. Overall, very fun and enjoyable and well worth the admission price ($20 for my student concession). I would recommend this for older children too, I am sure they’d find it fascinating.

Excellent tour. Our guide was Amelie. Very informative. Clear and articulate. The tour was well worth the price. ($20 concession). We were last here in 1994 and discoveries and innovations have been made since then. We are staying at the Novotel and it was a pleasant 20 minute walk.

Go on the guided tour which lasts one hour. The highlight is the mouton-gold- poring demonstration, Even though it is a mint, they only accept credit cards…no cash!

Hi all. Planning to visit The Perth Mint in mid December on a weekday morning. Would I be able to buy tickets on arrival? Or should I buy them online ahead of time? thanks

Hi,
For a single traveller in their 30s travelling by themself, is it worth going to visit Perth Mint. And is there much to do and see there and be interested about? Particularly if you don't have large amounts of money to spend on items there?

If you are interested in the inner workings of a Mint. There is an entry cost. For cheaper things to do, look up Perth Walking Tour or visit Claisebrooke Cove

Hi Perth mint, I notice in 'the blurb' on your website it mentions sovereign watches for sale but I couldn't find them on your shop tab? Do you still have them? Am I looking in the wrong spot?
If not, can you advise a good gift for an 80 yr old man! :)

Perth, Australia
Hi there, we sell coin watches in our shop and we do on our website (Although this service is temporarily unavailable due to a website upgrade. We are hoping the watches will be back on line by the end of the week). We don't stock sovereign watches, however, we do sell sovereign pendants and rings that can be made to order. Please call our shop on 9421 7376 if you require any further information. Kind regards
Am I able to buy a silver bar while visiting the mint?

What's the difference between the Perth mint and the mint in Canberra?
TourismCoordinator
Perth, Australia
Established as a branch of Britain’s Royal Mint in 1899, The Perth Mint is the oldest operating Mint in Australia. Wholly-owned by the State Government of Western Australia since 1970, The Perth Mint is empowered to issue the Australian Precious Metals Coin Program as legal tender and also strikes many of Australia’s limited edition collector coins, highly sought-after throughout the world for their superb proof quality and exquisite numismatic treatments. As one of Western Australia’s leading tourist attractions, The Perth Mint also offers a unique combination of activities, exhibitions and demonstrations as part of its admission-based guided tour, enabling visitors to experience the astonishing allure of gold.
The Royal Mint in Canberra is the sole supplier of Australia’s circulating coinage. More detailed information can be found at the respective websites for both Mints.
