Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I've really TRIED to like this development...but I just can't.
An earlier reviewer said it lacked flow and ambience; I agree on both counts.
The idea to reconnect the city with Northbridge is a good one but the execution is off the mark. Market Hall is an uninviting building with limited and expensive food options inside. The design of the building puts me in mind of a stockade or fortifications.
A fresh food market hall, ala Adelaide's, might have been a better fit on this site.
The current development has a forbidding and unwelcoming quality. I note too that hardly anyone uses the public spaces on top of and behind Market Hall.
At another level the built structures significantly blot out views of the elegant Horseshoe Bridge.
I "get" that Yagan Square is a bold and award winning piece of architecture and design, but it's not an engaging space for people, at least not for me.

Yagan Square opened with fanfare in 2018 but now the trumpets are virtually silent. Visited Monday, 12/09/22 and again on the following day. On both occasions the area almost totally devoid of pedestrians. Part of the area hoarded, probably the much-vaunted revamp touted by the State Government is underway. Apparently pedestrian numbers were less than forecast and the pandemic lockdowns and restrictions delivered the killer blow to many businesses. Main interests for me when I visited included the Digital Tower, Wirin sculpture and the lengthy water feature called 'Waterline'. Hopefully the revamp will be successful and attract the necessary volume of visitors to build success.

Since the sinking of the railway Perth and Northbridge is starting to open up. Yagan Square was pretty much the first to get done and now appears to be the gateway allowing hundreds of people to pass through.
Their are quite a few attractions here mainly restaurants cafes and bars. There is rarely a shortage of people using these facilities.
If you want a cheap beer and snacks try Street Eats in Horseshoe Lane. The big screen in Yagan Square is always playing something and it is extremely close to public transport being central to both the bus port and train station.

Yagan Square is a spacious open area between Northbridge and the city centre (Wellington Street). It is adjacent to the Perth Train Station. I gather it is used for special events but on the day I walked through there was nothing special on. Would I walk through Yagan Square at night - no, no, no. Safer in daylight.

Lovely spot. So many beautiful spaces amongst some beautiful spaces. Loved the metal, timber, concrete, gravels and brick mix. Interesting pieces of art. Nice for a wander or a group gathering or simply moving across the city

Friday night traditional Aboriginal dancing event. 5:30 to 6:15 for next couple of months. Well worth attending, followed by food and beverages in the square. Terrific opportunity to engage with traditional Noongar people.

Yagan Square is an area of Perth that commemorates Yagan(1795-1833), an early Aboriginal opponent of British settlement.. Yagan was a Noongar warrior who confronted the British colonists. Yagan Square is in Wellington Street, near the Busport and the Horseshoe Bridge. The Square is around 1,1 ha (3 acres). It's a meeting place for the people of Perth, a new centre for the city.

Yagan Square is a good place to meet friends. This well-known square in the eastern section of Perth, between the Perth Station and one of Perth's best-loved attractions, the Horse Shoe Bridge. Yagan Square is quite large, it's 1,1 ha (almost 3 acres). THe light tower is always interesting. By the way, Yagan was a Noongar warrior, who led the Aboriginal people who opposed Btitish settlement.

This is where you should begin your exploration of Perth. To the north of Yagan Square is Northbridge, which is something like a Chinatown. Go down south and admire the colonial architecture of William St and Barrack St nearby. Go east and west and explore the suburbs of Perth and Kings Park. At night, the square is crowded with people exploring the sights of Perth. Apparently you can get the Perth honey cake here but I didn't have a chance to try it.

Given all the hype, I thought I would go and see what all the fuss was about. I was disappointed to see that basically, Yagan Square is just a walkway over to Northbridge with a few eateries on the way (although the food hall eateries looked varied, clean and different), I wouldnt go out of my way to visit there but just to use as a walkway for convenience.
