Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I attended a performance by the Western Australia Ballet in the Heath Ledger Theatre.

The performance was excellent, and I am sure that my enjoyment of it was enhanced by the excellence of the venue, and its suitability as a performance space.

The acoustics were superb, and the audience comfort was high, as befits a modern contemporary theatre.

If you are visiting Perth, I suggest you check whether there is a performance at this theatre, as it is a very good venue.

This is a magnificent venue in which to watch a show or performance. I have attended here on several occasions and enjoyed myself each time.

The venue is fresh, expansive and is great for enjoying a drink before a show

Came here to watch the Andy Griffiths Treehouse play, which was ok in itself, but the actual theatre is really lovely and well appointed. There are limited refreshments available outside the theatre but commensurate with other places that are similar. Service was good and everyone working there seemed friendly. The seating is set up like a stadium so everyone gets a good view of the stage, though the first few rows seemed less so, so I’m not sure you would actually get the best views from there. I would be very happy to attend here again.

My wife and I attended Black Swan last week to watch "The Torrents" This is the second show we have watched at Black Swan... The first one we saw was "We belong together". Both shows were amazing and we loved them both. We laughed, we cried, we learned, we loved it! Such a great experience and such professional performances. The viewing is amazing, it is a great theater, you have great views. The costumes, the props all added to the quality of the content and performances.

The theatre is not huge so most seats provide a decent view of the stage. Saw a show here last weekend and it was great. Situated a short distance from Perth Railway Station and close to a good choice of restaurants.

Came here for a charity comedy night with the wife, and was very happy with the quality of the venue. The sets were comfortable and even though upstairs had a great view of the stage. Great location if you are watching a show

I was drawn in by the art that I could see through the windows. The lady behind the desk was quick to come forward and explain my options in negotiating the space.

The was an art exhibition showcasing work from artists from the Pilbara region which was fantastic.

The space worked well and all of the staff were friendly and helpful.

This whole theatre complex is outstanding and comprises a number of different performance venues within the complex. We organised a tour of the facility with a social group and were shown all the variety of venues and facilities (Dressing Rooms, Green Room, Bars etc.). This is a credit to the State and comprises many of the modern techniques available for modern theatre. They can run a number of performances at the same time and each venue is clearly seperated. The entrance and access areas are a work of art and the wood work in the foyer is magnificent. This is well worth a tour if you are a social group. The lady in charge never missed a beat when it came to explaining the various aspects of this amazing theatre.

The State Theatre Centre has a number of performance space that range in size but all are friendly and welcoming. The main auditorium has great acoustics and works well for a range of things from comedy (the mental health fund raiser; Tom Gleeson and Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette as part of the fringe festival were major highlights); to the straight theatre from Black Swan. The smaller space downstairs is has great stage visibility.

There are a couple of good bar spaces and a great courtyard area that in the summer has lots of entertainment and a bar area.

It’s part of the cultural precinct in Northbridge and a jewel in the WA cultural crown. Long may it continue to be supported by the WA government and the very wealthy mining sector - well done Rio for sponsoring theatre!!

See photographs below:
1. The exterior of the building on the corner of Roe and William Streets -
Located opposite Perth Central Station and very handy for Yagan Square
2. The illuminated pavement entry - lovely light show.
3. The grand staircase leading up to the main theatre space - great example of modern WA design/architecture
4. The courtyard space that is highly flexible and can host a huge variety of events. Often in the long and glorious WA summers there is free music and a bar to enjoy.

The State Theatre Centre is an amazing venue. Locals should support it along with the many restaurants and bars in the vicinity and tourists should visit and enjoy the atmosphere, architecture and entertainment.
