About
Be whisked back in time to an era of courageous men who lived a life of danger and fortune on our tour of pearl luggers in Broome. Discover over one hundred years of history and let us share with you the tale of ‘The Sea, The Men, The Legend’ on Pearling’s doorstep, Roebuck Bay, Chinatown, Broome. It is often said that Broome’s pearling industry is as rich in culture as it is in pearls. Join us as we reveal the impact pearling has had upon Northern Australia and how the melting pot of cultures enticed by the lure of the pearl influenced Broome. Surround yourself by a vast collection of original diving artifacts in our private air-conditioned museum then at your leisure view an exquisite selection of Broome pearl jewellery featuring the Australian South Sea Keshi Pearl in the Pearl Luggers jewellery showroom.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This tour was so interesting. Jay our tour guide took us on a journey of how pearl divers lived back in the day. Jay had an amazing knowledge of the pearling industry and together with the artefacts on display really brought it all to life for us.
Thank you and I would highly recommend this tour whilst in Broome.

A wonderful experience going back in time. Very informative guide, knowledgeable, friendly and well worth the visit. A lot of history about the early Pearl Luggers in Broome. Even got to sample Pearl Meat at the end of the tour.

I was fortunate to have a personal tour and learn about the past pearling industry.
It complimented the information I learned at the Willie Creek pearl farm.

It was rather shocking to see the diving equipment used and learn the death rate for divers was understandably high.

Megan conducted the tour and is very knowledgeable.
Aside from the museum, the static displays outside are also interesting and give a glimpse into the previous era.

There is a gift shop and plenty of pearls to tempt

Amenities are good
In the dry season there is a cafe. Not currently open

Access requires negotiation of steps, so would be a challenge for some.

Plenty of on street parking

We wanted to get the history of the pearl luggers as that's what made Broome. We walked there and at 11:00 it was still closed so I looked at their web site and there is nothing to say they were closed, looked very much open on the site but very closed in real life, no signs to inform you of anything. Whilst waiting there were many people also enquiring about the tours but eventually left without knowing anything. A simple sign on the door explaining the situation would have been very helpful. I understand the covid impact but still would like some info at the venue.

If you are interested in the history of the pearl divers in Broome this tour is a must. You get to see and touch many artefacts that the early pearl divers wore, including the knitted socks, jumpers and tartan trousers that were worn under the rubber diving suits to keep the divers warm. You learn how very dangerous the diving was and how many of the divers died. The hand equipment used to send the air down to the divers is also on display. In addition there are two preserved pearl luggers that you are able to walk around. A very interesting and informative tour.

I really enjoyed this short "tour". It was really a one hour talk, presented with variety, humour, photo references, realia references and opportunities for audience participation. I estimate that about 70 or 80 people of all ages, were attentively listening, seated in the Pearl Luggers air conditioned shed. Children were as engaged as the adults.

I found the presentation interesting, well planned, and well paced. I was engaged for the entire hour. It was a perfect way to start my exploration of Broome while on a brief holiday. After the talk there was opportunity to taste pearl shell meat and browse the shop containing pearl products. Nearby is an outdoor cafe and well maintained bathroom facilities. I recommend this activity for everyone.

A very informative and interesting tour, mostly in an air-conditioned room. Our guide, Jock, was very passionate and knowledgable about the history of Broome's pearl industry. A hands-on tour, we got to see and handle traditional round helmet diving equipment and what they wore, feeling the weight of everything. You could even try it on if you wanted. We also tasted pearl meat included in the tour price.

We weren't aware this museum was connected to Willie Creek Pearls -thought it was a walk in, but we had to book and pay. But it was worth the visit.

Cheap and informative. Great history lesson on Broome and pearling industry. Was unable to go to the actual farm, but after doing this I wish I had. Better than the town tour I think
