- xtine2015Auckland Central, New Zealand107 contributions11 out of 10 experienceI would 100% go to Broome again. We had a marvellous time. The stairway to the moon was a wonderful evening. We flew to the Horizontal Water and went through it in a very powerful boat. We flew to the Bungle Bungles and walked into Cathedral Gorge. One day we hired a car and drove down to Eco Beach - beautiful beach. The colours were fabulous. Rode camels at Sunset on Cable Beach... wow!Visited August 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 January 2023
- ITRT38,566 contributionsBelieved to be Named for a Telegraph CableCable Beach has beautiful turquoise waters, red soil, and white sand. It’s Western Australia’s most famous beach. Its name is attributed to the fact that a telegraph cable was laid which connected the northwest part of Australia with the rest of the world. If you have a 4WD, you can drive on the beach. The beach was named for the telegraph cable laid in 1889 from Broome to Java. In the North section, there is a nudist beach but remember in this area you need to be aware of sharks, crocodiles, and stingers when swimming during the months of November to March. It is famous for its sunset came rides. Near Cable Beach is a statue of Lord Alistair McAlpine. He was an Englishman credited with putting Broome on the tourist map. As the pearling industry declined, McAlpine focused on property investment and reconstruction to entice people to visit this part of Australia. He purchased some lad and had built the Cable Beach Clube Resort and Spa, the first resort in Broome. His focus was to promote the sale of pearls, to build a zoo to house kangaroos, wallabies, camels and other endangered species, and to promote local culture and indigenous art.Visited November 2022Written 2 February 2023
- ozehoff20 contributionsWell worth the waitI waited over 20 years to visit Cable Beach; it was everything i had dreamed! One of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. If you want to stay for the day (during the dry), you can rent umbrellas/chairs and while away the day by the ocean. Bliss!Visited February 2023Written 8 February 2023
- Michelle REngadine, Australia332 contributionsABSOLUTELY STUNNINGCable Beach was stunning especially at sunset. We went for the morning for a massage at Cable Resort and ended up spending the whole day here. We walked the beach, had a lovely lunch and drink in Zanders and watched the sights go by then had massages in the resort and then watched sunset and the camels on the beach. Such a lovely chilled day. Plenty of parking and a huge park to sit in.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 May 2023
- Mirek99Melbourne, Australia11 contributionsGreat place to watch the sunsetsEnjoy the sunsets, enjoy watching the camels go home, and watch the 4WDs exiting the beach. Don't rush after sunset, especially on the slightly cloudy evenings. The longer you wait, the more amazing it gets.Visited July 2023Written 11 July 2023
- Scarlet1611Adelaide, Australia199 contributionsBeautiful beach with great facilitiesFantastic beach. It's well set up with a patrolled area where you can safely swim and it's easy to hire umbrellas and sunshades. If you want to get away from the crowds, the beach is almost deserted if you just walk a couple of minutes. There are facilities right above the beach including toilets, showers and a fabulous restaurant / takeaway (Zanders). The beach is tidal and there's quite a difference between high tide and low tide.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 August 2023

- Jacomina PSydney, Australia229 contributionsMagical SunsetsThe tidal differences are enormous in Broome so picking your time to visit is important. Low tide allows 4WD car access on the beach and a chance to walk amongst the rocks looking for dinosaur prints . This is also where you can have a camel ride or watch the camels parading across the beach. Sitting on the grass or walking on the sand at sunset is absolutely magical. It's very hot and you might want to hire an umbrella if staying for a while. Several bars open to the public face the beach too.Visited July 2023Written 5 August 2023

We hired loungers and an umbrella for 4 hours which cost around $30. The guys take care of carrying everything to the area you want and then put the umbrella up along with the loungers. Very friendly and very helpful. We had lunch at the nearby cafe (sorry can’t remember the name of it but the pizza was delicious). Surf life are also on the beach.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 August 2023

I went to Cable Beach to see what all the fuss was about. Well, it didn't let me down. a vast, magnificent beach where many people were observing the sun sinking over the water. The colors of the sunset nearly hypnotized you into a feeling of complete serenity when there was little cloud cover.

Cable beach is the best beach in the world. As the landing in from the edge of the water to going in the ocean, there are no rocks or seaweeds when I was there. It is therefore the perfect beach for long distance swimming during the dry season
(I was there July/ August).
There's a 3-4 kms stretch on the
secluded section which is perfect for walking !
The only downside is at North of the rocks, there is a lot of 4wd, so stay south of the rocks.
Also at the southern end, gantheaume pt, there's also a lot of 4wd, so should be avoided.
However, the 3-4 kms stretch where no vehicles allowed, as mentioned above, is secluded with awesome high dunes and perfect for long walks, solitude and swimming short and long distance during the months of July August September. It doesn't get better than this anywhere else in the world.

Beautiful long beach. Stunning for swimming, sight seeing, running, walking. I was walking at one stage and saw dolphins playing amongst the swimmers in the early morning.

I'm just not sure as some people say Uber is in Broome and some say it's not. Does uber exist in Broome ?
Broome has its own Rideshare App called 'TaTa Ride'. You can download it on App or play store.
Their rideshare service is unmatchable and the only one of its kind! Very responsive App and connects to the nearest driver in seconds, as opposed to an hour's wait for local taxis!

Hi,
they do not have Uber in Broome. You can hire a car and pick up it at the airport. Otherwise you can take a taxi or as third possibility you can book a transfer ( just check the website of Broome Transfer)
Have a nice day

Wots the best way for a single 54 yo woman to see cable Beach, Broome & surrounds?

Hi, I was a woman travelling alone. I spent some of my time at the Mangrove Hotel and some at an air BnB at Cable Beach. Although you can walk into the old town from the Mangrove- pearls, markets, Matso's, cinema, Old Broome Gaol, sandalwood, etc. you need some other form of transport to get to Cable Beach. I hired a car which made life much easier and let me visit Cable Beach and Town Beach ( good cafe there) each day, as well as the Museum, Gantheaume Point and a variety of restaurants etc. I took a day trip to Derby in it without problem. However you need to book a tour of a few days or day trips to really see the more remote or off-road sights and places like Cape Leveque. Broome (including Cable Beach) is quite spread out, I think it would be not nearly so easy or pleasant without some form of transport (tons of taxis around though I didn't see lots of buses). I always felt safe.
What's the best way to see Broome, Cable Beach etc for a single 54 yo woman?

I was there solo- a car would have been useful as I found it expensive to do things otherwise. Heading out to Willie Creek Pearl Farm is really expensive by coach. The local city buses were cheap though. The local bus took in quite a few of the sights so is a cheap option for a day or two. You can get an early bus (it was 730am from Chinatown) down to Guantheaume Point then walk the 5km to Cable beach and get back on the bus there to explore town...

This may seem like a silly question but we're looking for things to do with an almost 1 year old. Can they ride on the camels with parents?

Weve seen couples with cery young children riding cameks ... One baby younger than 12 month old was very distressed and scared and cried most of the time - this wasnt fun for parents or people behind them :) another kid in front of us was probably a bit older, may be 1,5 , was only crying when getting onto her camel and afterwards seemed to have enjoyed herself. So really depends on you and your kid and if you are prepared to take the risk of them not enjoying ... Once you are on the camel you are there for 1 hour! I think there are 30min pre sunset tours you can try which might be better.
Swimming walking and just playing with the sand are always there of course. Before swimming at cable check regarding stingers present in the water - no point risking it with a young child.
