Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The time we went January 2020 looks like they are in the middle of a upgrading project putting stone retaining wall around the beach area. i am thinking once that is done they will clear the mangroves in front, the wall stopping the erosion. Though at the moment in a half finished state the children’s play areas and the grassed areas with seating look as though it will cracking area once finished . Plenty of greens and shaded areas , but didn’t haven’t any clue of the extent of the works and time scale .

We visited Town Beach on our first day and were a little disappointed as I was expecting a beach where you could swim. However the sand is a reddish colour making the water not look very inviting and nobody else was sitting on the beach or swimming. However, we returned again on another day and realised there is more to Town Beach than just the water/sand - there is a memorial, a small cemetary, plenty of grassed areas and a little cafe (which we didn't try but it looked very popular). There is plenty of parking.

A great place to sit and watch the staircase to the moon while eating a takeaway from the food vans. It was a hive of activity with people exploring the markets and enjoying the atmosphere. The improvements made along the foreshore are a credit to the town

Town Beach is lovely spot to wander around and take in some history. The area has been landscaped, there's a lovely cafe, children's playground, an interesting artwork of silhouettes with stories of WW2 survivors, and the remains of an early cemetery. Walk down to the end of the jetty to spot turtles popping their heads up. Based on all the warning signs I don't think beach itself is really for much swimming although did see several people wading when the tide was in.

A visit here is a must in Broome. Never realised Broome had been bombed. The silent statues at the beginning of the peer really touched my heart - to hear the Japanese families who had worked all the pearling lugs interned and loosing everything durring WW2. Town Beach has great water park for the children and hosts severtal markets. Also the place to be for the staircase to the moon experience.

When we visited, it was after some upgrades were recently completed in this area. The beach overlooks the Bay, and the water is a very unusual blue, and looks very beautiful on a sunny day. There's lots of seating and park area.
The only real minus was how busy it was, with lots of kids and locals at the playground area, including a couple of bus loads of natives, who were drinking on the lawn, and a little loud at times but causing no trouble.
Definitely a nice place to visit, however, and we enjoyed a couple of hours relaxing here.

Town Beach used to be a tired area but the renovation has transformed it into a star attraction
Full stone sea wall, tied area to watch Stairway to the Moon, beautiful kids parka tea, lush gras
The new jetty is so well planned. Something for everyone there with some interesting indigenous aspects
The memorial to the Japanese attack in WW2 is well done and an important reminder of the dark days of Broome history.
Take a picnic, lunch at The Wild Flower.
Broome at its best

Broome...the mosquitoe problem will depend on the time of year you visit, the level of attack varies from overwhelming to irritating...the 5 diseases they carry range from survivable to potentially deadly...MVE, no known cure, severe cases can result in Paraplegic to Quadriplegic and Brain Damage. Both type of mosquitoes found at Broome carry this disease. Just after the wet is the most horrific in terms of insect attack then progressively lessens. Cover up and constantly spray, apart from that try not to worry, however these insects invade your vehicle and lodging without you knowing.

We came here when it was both low tide and high tide and what a remarkable contrast. See my pics for the differences. It was a pretty amazing sight - seeing how far the tide can go out.
Town Beach is the best place to see the 'Staircase to the Moon'. We came on the first 2 days and experience two different views as on the 2nd day the skies were partly cloudy. We also watched the phenomenon at different spots; first day at the end of the jetty and the 2nd day at the rocks at the path in front of the playground.
It is from here too that one can walk out to view the Catalina WW2 Flying Boat wrecks if tides were below 0.86m and we were fortunate that happened on the 2nd night. One can kill 3 birds with one stone if everything aligns; visit the Night Market, walk to the wrecks and then view the Staircase to the Moon which we were fortunate to do.
The Pioneer Cemetery on the hill overlooking the jetty is worth visiting. There is only about a dozen headstones but I found it really interesting.
Oh and if you have young kids, there is a great playground and not forgetting the older teens and adults too, there are exercise machines.

The play park was ok, but probably aimed at slightly younger children then mine (6 and 8). We really went to the Town Beach to go to the water park. It was extremely disappointing to find out that this was closed for maintenance - yes in school holidays !! Fantastic timing Broome council.
The town beach wasn't very appealing either.
My recommendation would be to go to Cable Beach rather than Town Beach.

How far is the beach from the city? I would like to go to see the upstairs case to the moon. Is safe to go alone? Thanks

Yes it is safe, and it is about a 15/20 minute from town centre.
