Do the day trip with to Dirk Island with Island Life Adventures, it is amazing. Cassie and Holly are fun and informative just lovely. Buffet lunch was beyond expectations. We snorkelled, camped and SUP . Great day. Thanks. Oh, the Inscription gin, is a must 😁

We took this day trip to Dirk Hartog Island from Denham and enjoyed it thoroughly. The boat stopped a couple of times for viewing of dolphins in the gulf, we had a coffee on arrival, a short tour of the old station buildings and then an amazing lunch. Meat, fish, pasta and great salad to help ourselves. Alcohol is available or tea, coffee or other drinks included. There is a four wheel tour of the island, which I didn’t take, but I spent the beautiful afternoon beach combing and relaxing. Highly recommended.

A great Day at Dirk with Island Life Adevntures
Jul. 2021
Dirk Hartog Island is a fascinating and historic place to visit from Denham. The 6.5 hour tour included a 45 minute jet boat trip to and from the island, a really good buffet lunch and a terrific 4WD trip to see blowholes and Surf Point. Cassie and Holly on the boat were lovely. Make sure you take their advice and wear the provided mariner jacket as it gets very cold when the boat gets up to top speed. Whilst the 4WD trip of about two hours is an optional extra, there's no point in going to the island if you're not going to do the drive. Most of the marine life was having a day-off when we visited so we only saw dolphins. The tour could be improved, we thought, by spending a bit less time on the 4WD tour and going back to have a drink at the cute beach bar before departure. The island has its own gin!

We had an amazing 1/2day tour of dirk hartog island. The trip over on the fast boat was very informative with loads of information about the island and the marine life.
Once over there we hopped into the 4wd and thoroughly enjoyed the bumpy ride to surf point where we saw sharks and a couple of turtles pop their heads out the water. Onto the blowholes and WOW the most amazing experience. Something to be seen indeed.
Our tour guide Russell and Tiania (sorry if I spelt that wrong😳) were excellent and really made the trip.
We would highly recommend this tour.

45 minute boat ride to the island from Denham - take the offer of a loan jacket because it is a bit windy and chilly. The day we went was too windy and cool to use the canoes, paddle boards or snorkel. The lunch provided was excellent. The bar doesn’t serve drinks until 5pm so day trippers need to BYO. We spent the day walking on the beach and sitting in the cafe and it was very relaxing. We had a short tour of the homestead area and shearing shed. We saw dolphins on the way home, but no other marine life. It was expensive for a day on the beach, but the operators don’t control the weather or the marine wildlife. The staff were brilliant … we will visit again in better weather.

Amazing place and tour

We did the boat trip and 4WD tour of Dirk Hartog Island with Shark Bay Dive and Marine Safaris. Our crew, Russell and Tiani were great. So friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the island and its history. The boat trip was about 50 minutes from Denham before the 12 of us split into two 4WD vehicles. On the boat Russell pulled out the maps and walked us through the history of the island before we landed. We also slowed for a while so we could watch 2 manta rays swimming nearby. Tiani and Russell were both great drivers and the trip to the other side of the island was fast, safe and interesting. Loved the Bay of Sharks with hundreds of “nervous sharks” swimming in the shallows. Off to the Blowholes for lunch before we headed back to Homestead Bay and the Inscription Bar & Cafe for a lovely barista coffee to fortify us for the return trip to Denham. What a great day. Loved every minute of it.

Getting there is a great track and sometimes heavily corrugated.. allow enough time to enjoy.. once you get to barge site there is usually a line to get into barge.. wait around and have a chat to fellow islanders, one tip is if your towing something make sure you have enough clearance to get on the barge.. it can be a steep drive on and sometimes turning your tow hitch over so it’s higher does help!!! Beach is nice and hard... no need to speed to the barge..
Once on you can hop out and go meet the skipper and have a chat!
Roads on island are very corrugated allow extra time when planning this trip.. we took 45-1hr to get to homestead.. comfortable pace and over limestone.. had one of our guys get a puncture from driving on the side of the track and was a rock there that punctured the side wall..
And even from homestead to Louisa Bay took us 2hrs (30km) to give you some idea what the track are like... it’s not even a hard 4WD track.. it’s just the corrugations!
We will be back to Dirk for the next trip.. loved everyday of it..
