Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were very unlucky the night we went because it was dumping with rain and we couldn't open any of the observatories. However the guides did a great job explaining what was there, and the rain meant that we got extra time in the old office/library which was fantastic (because I'm a bookworm). It's a shame that it is only run on a Monday night because it means that we have to wait for school holidays to take a trip to Melbourne. If everyone had turned up the tour would have been very squishy but I think a lot of people were put off by the rain. Such a shame that we couldn't look through any telescopes but Mother Nature is in control and there was nothing we could do.

This observatory is well worth visiting. The tour guides are friendly and very knowledgeable about the observatory's history and the history of astronomy and historical scientific advances in telescope technology. There are working telescopes to view the night sky and even in cloudy weather if the telescopes cannot be used the tour is still great because there is more time to hear about the history. The buildings are beautiful, historic observatory buildings.

It was great! Small groups so you spent a fair bit of time at the telescopes without feeling rushed. Their was a miz of adults and kids in our group, we were give an interesting history of the buildings etc and then viewed stars, planets and the moon through 2 telescopes in the old buildings. Informative and fun!

The Melbourne Obseratory dates from 1865, and was in Government service until 1945. It is now part of the Royal Botanical Garden. The Observatory is one of the few historic observatories world-wide that date from the Victorian era. The Observatory is Heritage listed. It is normally open to the public, but due to the corona virus it is now closed until the lockdown is lifted

Lucked in with clear skies that afforded awesome views of Jupiter, Saturn and stars. Colin was very informative and the history of the venue was great.
Not sure what would happen on a cloudy night but for us the experience was fantastic.

The evening tours to the Observatory is run by the members of the Astronomical Society so they know their information and history very well. The telescopes are beautiful and very historical and it is great that we can look through them on the tour. To get the most out of the tour pick a night with fewer clouds.

It was founded in 1862 as a Scientific Research Center for Melbourne and tracked the stars and watched the weather. It was expanded in 1902 and now has 22 rooms and features the typical dome and open section that provides access to the sky you might expect from an Observatory. Worth a visit.

We did a guided tour where we learnt about the establishment of the observatory and its telescopes before getting to look through them at stars, planets and the moon, we really enjoyed it.
