Tarkine Wilderness trip.
Luckily the fabulous walkers on the trip and the stunning scenery made up for the lackluster trip provided by ParkTrek.
Changes due to covid were not communicated prior to the trip, resulting in the inability for guests to make up trail mix etc themselves. The advertising related to food was optimistic at best: "selection of antipasto delights, dips, cheese and crackers" was dukkah and bread, while dinner 'menu changes to suit available fresh produce but could include a classic roast lamb, salmon fillet or Thai chicken" meant pasta with olives and vegetarian curry. No protein in site. We even ran out of yoghurt for breakfast. It is no small feat to have older women concerned about not getting enough nutrition.
Safety was also a concern, given the average age of the walkers. The usual safety requirement of one guide at front and one at back was not implemented, leaving walkers to look after each other (which we do anyway however.....). After a hike in sleet where the walkers called the hike to an end as it started to get unsafe, we picked leeches off each other and checked each other for warmth
And for a sustainable eco certified company, unless you bring your own lunchbox etc, there was significant plastic use. Very disappointing for the price point and sales pitch of this trip.
For some, this was a substantially priced trip, which simply did not live up to the hype. Luckily, the group was fabulous and the scenery makes up for a multitude of sins!
