Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I completed the UK Coast to Coast in July this year with Deb & Mike, owners of Getaway Trekking. It was the perfect sized group of 15 like-minded hikers. Everything was professionally pre-arranged; we had great English style hotel/inn accommodation over the 16 days. Highly recommend Getaway Trekking for those who enjoy a very well organised adventure and with an extra personal touch by Deb & Mike.

If you have even had a spark of interest in doing the Kokoda track then I will tell you it’s a must! Getaway Trekking are absolutely amazing from start to end in setting you up and taking you out on this wonderful adventure. From the point of enquiries to booking, the opportunity to join group walks (Melbourne area) and get a whole lot of information from others who have experienced this, the emails with detailed information and recommendations and no question to small answered, the actual experience with such knowledgeable and friendly guides as well as the sensational Buna boys who take such great care of you, it is the most amazing thing you can do! I loved every moment of it. I cannot rate them all high enough!

I walked Kokoda track in a Getaway group. The team of locals from Buna and Sanananda that hosted us (carried gear and cooked for us) were exceptional. So friendly, supportive and knowledgeable Fantastic scenery. Physically challenging but well worth it. 8 days walking in tropical rainforest and remote villages was so good for my brain and soul.

I have recently returned from the Aussie Camino Walk, a 9-day package including 7 days of hiking from Portland, Vic to Penola, SA through Getaway Trekking & Adventures.
I absolutely loved it! It was my first hike, and I loved trekking through such a diversity of landscapes including beach, cliff-top tracks, farmland, forest, old railway line, and country roads. The coastal views of the ocean with pods of seals frolicking on and off rocks was magical. Seeing Australian fauna such as mobs of Wallabies, Echidna, Koalas, Rosellas and native Aussie flora up close was a real highlight for me. I also enjoyed that it was a pilgrim walk following the life of Australia’s first saint Mary McKillop. The small group of 10 people (couples, singles) made it easy to connect and to have meaningful, reflective conversations as well as having plenty of belly laughs.
The ethos of the company was supportive and inclusive. From the first briefing with our gentle knowledgeable guide, Jonathon, and organized lovely driver, Deb (also company owner), it was clear that the walk wasn’t a competition of the fastest or fittest. In saying that, pre training walking is a must to get the most out of the experience.
A support bus was available if anyone was struggling on a particular day. Whether you are looking for a diverse hiking experience or for a spiritual journey or a combination of the two this is the hike to choose

Trekking UK’s coast to coast from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay was an amazing experience for me and shared with a wonderful group of people. The 3 National Parks and its changing landscapes and scenery was absolutely spectacular and the many quaint English villages and Inns along the way added to the experience. Deb and Mike Manders from Getaway Trekking did a wonderful job guiding us on this trek, providing lots of encouragement, support and ensuring we arrived safely at our destination each day. A truly amazing experience and one I won’t forget!

A group of 8 friends did the Aussie Camino Walk starting from Portland Vic and finishing in Penola SA.
We had a wonderful guide Therese and our driver Tony. They were excellent in their roles.
We would highly recommend this adventure. October is a good month for the Camino Walk.

We went to Morocco with Deb & Mike from Getaway in June 2023. It was an amazing 2 part trip, the first half being hiking through the Atlas High Mountains with a local guide & support crew with Mules to help carry all the equipment including kitchen tent, dinning tent & sleeping tents. The hiking was breathtakingly beautiful with some large passes each day & amazing food throughout. We submitted Mt Toubkal (4165M) as the pinnacle of the hike. The 2nd part of the trip was based on more of a tradition small bus tour seeing the wonders of Marrakech, Quarzazate, Western Sahara, Fes, Chechaouene, Rabat & Casablanca. Truely an amazing experience & highly recommend to anyone thinking of doing similar trip.

Absolutely amazing. I went on the 8- day trek with my daughter and tour leaders Sharee & Adam, l could not recommend it more. Outstanding understanding of the history of the track and the individual battle stories. The porters were absolute fuzzy wuzzy angels and the group of 20 amazing people on the trek were awesome. The friendships made are forever lasting and the experiences will stick with me forever. Highly recommend Getaway

Excellent experience for myself and my 18yo daughter. Valued the easy communication with Deb at Getaway trekking. We were guided by excellent experienced and safe partners in Nepal, and I think the business-relationship really helped in providing me confidence to travel. If there were any misunderstandings about inclusions these were handled well by Getaway.

I did the "Australian Camino" earlier this month (September 2022). From the moment we were picked up at the St Mary MacKillop Centre in Melbourne until we completed the Camino, it was all a first class experience.

Our guides Heather and Grech were very experienced, knowledgeable on their subject and caring. The walks, accommodation, meals and general team spirit that developed, all combined to make our pilgrimage memorable.

I know this Camino is in its infancy. I believe we will look back when it's busy and famous and be able to say "hey I did that before most people had even heard about it"😊
