Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a wonderful surprise hidden high above the trees in Bourke Street . Elegant white wrought iron furniture on a balcony that has a true wow factor .Small but interesting menu . Our all girl party chose a selection of toasted chicken sandwiches and home made sausage rolls . Beautifully presented and served . Topped off with a glass of Champagne . Great value , great service .

A rooftop bar near parliament named after a reputed brothel owner who had all the local politicians in her pocket (allegedly). The owner has had fun with this association with double entendres un the menu and signage, and a very interesting staff dress code. There are plenty of parasols around to use if you're sitting in the sun.
Quite a few cocktails in the menu; we had a jug of Mocow Mule that went down like lemonade. There were no mocktails in the menu but the waiter asked our daughter what flavours she like and made one for her.
There us a food menu but we only had a snack of bread and hummus which was very nice.
It was very busy, and our only choice amof seats were bot that comfortable. Would go again if I was in the area.

Madame Brussels is also called Degani. A bit confusing. Location is good and convenient. Coffee is good - I took a cappuccino and a yogurt. This place was quiet and wifi was working fine. Service could be a bit better. Smile and friendliness should not be a supplement, it should be part of the deal.

Friday afternoon drinks - with quite a long line up and seat stalking!
A funky roof top bar in Melbournes CBD. Famous for its jugs of cocktails ( which don't come cheap) and retro setting.

Went here for an afternoon drink. Lots of different beverages to choose from. My husband chose a boutique beer and I had mulled wine, which was served hot in a beautiful little teapot with tea cosy and a fine china cup. If you are looking for something a little different, you won't be disappointed. Staff were very attentive and friendly, felt the only thing missing was a white rabbit!!!!! Would definitely recommend!

Some colleagues and I came here for a drink to wait for our table at Chin Chin's. Loved the atmosphere and the drinks. I had the DD and it was very good. Worth trying, especially on a nice day.

I am an older, cocktail loving guy, who was introduced to this extraordinary welcoming cocktail bar by a much younger friend. He said it is like an "Alice in Wonderland" setting - lawns, outdoor and indoor tables, grassed floor, staff in brief tennis-type outfits - all capably managed by the extraordinary Miss Pearl!
I loved every minute I was there, so much so, that we went two days in a row, and will continue to do so - not necessarily quite as frequently. Love it.

Great rooftop bar and cafe. Good place to take visitors to Melbourne.
Hard to believe you are in the middle of the city.

Great drinks, music, people and snacks, and the best thing is sitting in a garden setting on the CBD building top. Highly recommended for an afternoon/evening drink outdoors when the weather is warm (or not).
