Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I went for a ride on the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel Private Cabin. The trip was very smooth and I had a good view of Melbourne. Unfortunately, in architectural terms Melbourne is a very boring city, there's not much to see, you spend a long time seeing nothing much. I've been on the London Wheel, which was good, because there a lots of well-known buildings to see.

Having experienced the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel, I was sorry to hear that the Wheel was going into liquidation. I must say the small number of guests who took a ride on the wheel probably enjoyed the experience, as I did. Unfortunately, the wheel just didn't catch on. Melbourne people are fickle, sometimes they just dislike a structure. As it turns out, the wheel will cease operations soon. Will some new enterprise revive the wheel? Who knows.

Murdered by Dan. RIP, you didn’t deserve this.
Used to come by and look when in town.
Especially liked the lights at night.
Another victim of the tyrant.

Loved every minute of it. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We took our children aged 5 & 6 and they loved it too. The views are amazing. The gift shop is huge with lots of choices. My husband loved being able to have a beer during the ride. The offer of a second ride for $5 is fantastic. Unfortunately our children were hungry so we didn’t take up the offer. Would go again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.

I cannot fault the cabins and staff etc - all great and reminded me of the London Eye except without the queues. The whole of the way round though, you are constantly asking yourself why on earth was it built here, and what exactly are we supposed to be looking at? Your main view is railway tracks, industrial waste ground and the bridge with the freeway! In the distance in one direction you can see the bay and the tops of some of the CBD buildings in the distance in the other . I kept thinking as we get higher maybe we can see more things, but no. When you think of the fabulous views you could have of the city at that height it’s a strange view to present to tourists. I suspect night time would be better as at least you’d have lights to look at. So this would be great if it was built somewhere else with an actual view of the city!!

Hello Claire, thank you for your review. Our staff will be pleased to know you appreciated their quality service. Melbourne Star is proud to be located in Melbourne's waterfront precinct which offers not only a view of the city skyline, but showcasing Melbourne's ever changing industrial dexterity as well. At night the view completely changes. You can see the sparkling city skyline and suburban lights twinkling in the distance. We're sorry to hear that we didn't quite meet your expectations this time around, but we still hope to see you again! Kindest Regards, Melbourne Star Team

Lovely location with plenty of food/drink and entertainment options before/after the wheel experience. Very friendly and efficient staff. The cabin was clean with good temperature. Commentary was funny and informative, appropriate for children. The magic photos did not turn out great- the edits were a bit cringe-worthy. The wheel is a good way to start a trip to Melbourne as it Is informative and may give you ideas for places to visit.

Great place to view the Melbourne city. The LED light display is fantastic. I suggest to go up just before sunset. The management of the queue should have been better. I had to go the end of the queue after showing my online purchased ticket and wasted at least another 15 minutes.

My partner and I came here at 8pm on Saturday night

We had a great experience, staff very friendly and talked to you on a personal level. They made it feel seamless

We bought the ticket at the door and didn't have to wait to long in line.
But lining up to board you will need to get the about 20 minutes early. Due to covid can only let 4 to 5 people on at a time

Ticket price was $36 auzzie per person for about a 30 minute trip. We felt it was worth the experience

When you rotate about quarter of the way you see the view of the city straight away

Overall, this place would be good for families, first time tourists in Melbourne all occasions

Ps, make sure you go to the toilet before you board. Toilet located at the start of entrance behind the ticket line

Went around 6pm on a Sunday. Signage to find the entry was a bit patchy - we just kept walking towards the big wheel. Went up and down 2 or 3 escalators before we finally found the actual entrance. It was very quiet so we got our own cabin but it does look well organized to handle heavier traffic. Great view of the city but the commentary could have been a bit more informative. Piece of advice ? You put the gift shop at the end - not the start. No one buys their snowglobe before they've been on the attraction !
