About
Melbourne Central is a diverse shopping and dining destination that invites you to keep exploring. Bringing together more than 300 retailers over five levels, Melbourne Central is home to an absorbing range of Australian and international fashion brands from Gorman, Alannah Hill, Crumpler to Vans and Nique. Take a sugar break at Cupcake Central, a beauty break at Mecca Maxima or an indulgent time-out at Self Centred Medi Spa. The buzz continues after dark, whether you are lurking in Knox Lane with its graffiti by Melbourne's infamous DABS and MYLA, or basking beneath a screen in the Hoyts Lux Cinema. Spanning two city blocks, the centre boasts several unique architectural features including the giant Marionette Watch hanging in Shot Tower Square, famous for its hourly rendition of the Australian anthem 'Waltzing Matilda'. The square is named after the historic Coops Shot Tower a bullet-making facility built in 1889. Today, the brick shot tower stands proudly in its original place, protected by a modern twist: the magnificent Glass Cone, designed in the '80s by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. While it floods the centre with natural light, the Glass Cone's design also makes it one of Melbourne's most recognisable landmarks. Located atop the City Loop Melbourne Central train station and can be found on the iconic free city circle tram route. Melbourne Central boasts 822 car parks making it the perfect base for Melbourne city excursions. The five-star-rated parents' retreat offers a sanctuary for families, while The Little Library free book exchange provide spaces for pause and escape from the city's frenetic buzz. Whatever brings you to Melbourne, be it shopping, exploring, lunch, brunch or simply an unexpected adventure, it is all waiting between Lonsdale and La Trobe. Or to go behind the scenes book a place on Melbourne Central's Unlocked Tour which leads visitors around hidden nooks, rarely-seen vantage points and secret rooftops. Bernadette Alibrando can also tell you the tales of Melbourne Central's huge range of artworks in the Walk to Art Tours. For bookings please visit the Melbourne Central website.

Central shopping centre. with a buzz
Jul. 2021
Melbourne Central has a buzz, There's lots of shopping, from RM Williams, the bushman's outfitters, to a large Coles Supermarket. There's also lots of eateries and specialty shops. The Coops Shot Tower dates from the Victorian era, there's a small museum at the base. The Melbourne Central underground loop station gives easy access to the centre.

Cleanliness could improve
May 2021 • Family
The place is lacking in cleaning. There are filthy floors everywhere. Shame, the architecture is kinda ok.

An experience
Apr. 2021
Melbourne Central is a major shopping centre. It is quite an amazing complex. There are countless shops inside and it all comes with an underground train station as well. We were running out of time so we did not spend long at the centre. Recommended.

Nice vibe to this centre.
Jan. 2021 • Solo
This is the first shopping centre I have visited in Melbourne that has a vibe about it. Lots of places to shop as well as get a drink or a bite to eat. There are arcades, a cinema and even a bowling alley. Contained within Melbourne Central is the Shot Tower.

Tower is a Melbourne landmark
Nov. 2020
Melbourne Central is a major retail and office complex, combined with the Melbourne Central underground station. It's at the corner of La Trobe St and Swanston St. Following the demise of the Daimaru department store, GPT (General Property Trust) to over management and turned it into a combination of office space and retail properties, including Coles. The Coops Shot Tower has RM Williams, the Bushman's Outfitter, as a tenant at the base of the tower. The Shot Tower has proved to be quite an attracction, as has the giant clock.

Don't miss the Shot Tower
Jun. 2020
The Shot Tower was saved from demolition and is now a Melbourne landmark. R M Williams, the bushman's outfitters., have an outlet in the base of the tower. A small museum can be found inside the base of the tower. Shot was made mainly in the 19th century for shotguns. More convenient methods of manufacturing shot are now used. Melbourne Central is now a retailing centre, from up market to everyday retailers. It also hosts the Melbourne Central Loop Station. Melbourne Central also has a chiming clock, which is popular with visitors.

Need improvement
Jun. 2020 • Friends
Its an OK shopping centre in the midst of Melbourne, but they really need to improve their HOYTS, because its far behind compare to Hoyts in Docklands.

Great meeting place!
Aug. 2019
Right in the heart of Melbourne with subway and trams, one of the best places for a meeting. The place has lots of cafes and restaurants with a great shopping area.
