I'm a great lover of the free walking tour, the first thing I do on visiting a city is sign up for one, they're an excellent way to see a city before deciding on what you want to see in depth. The Melbourne tour with Desmond was fantastic, a great intro to the city, delivered with passion, enthusiasm and fun. The... More

Our tour guide Lenny gave us an excellent insight into his home city of Melbourne. Full of enthusiasm and local knowledge we were shown so many places that we could return to later at our leisure. You only pay the guide what you believe the tour is worth, in our case we were more than happy to make a contribution.

Best decision I made was to take this tour in the morning and be lucky enough to be grouped with Lenny. The tour provided me an overview of the city and its history but filled with exciting side stories and local tips. Lenny was a gracious guide, full of knowledge and wit, but most importantly, a love for Melbourne. I... More

A nice tour of the city center (CBD) conducted by passionate melbournian tour guides, it gives you lots of ideas and suggestions about things to do while you're here. Definitely recommended! A special thanks to Matthew blonde, probably one of the best tour guides of the Southern Hemisphere.

While we didn't have big expectations from a free tour, we were very pleasantly surprised with both the quality and the quantity of the content that was presented to us. Our guide - the blonde Mathew - went out of his way to present the history of the city in a captivating way and to give us amazing tips about... More

We met on February 10th, 2017 at the State Library of Melbourne and was warmly greeted by Desmond the guide. The tour lasted about three hours. Desmond is a local guy. Very informative, knowledgable, funny, and could not have been better. We had a fantastic time with Desmond and saw the sites of Melbourne. Thank you Desmond!

Joining this walking tour is an excellent way to get a brief overview of the interesting sights and places in the city of Melbourne. The 3 hour walking tour is 'touch and go' but it helps you to plan the places you want to go back and spend more time at. Our guide, "The Blond Matthew", did a marvellous job... More

If you have some free time in the day and want to get a quick overview of the city, this walking tour is for you. If you're not familiar with the system, here's how it works: you show up at the appointed times (1030am or 130pm) and you get assigned to a tour guide who takes you through the city,... More

We went as a family on the tour and learnt so much about Melbourne we never would have knew otherwise. It's a 3 hour long tour, so wear good walking shoes! Desmond our guide was fun, energetic and very informative. He showed us some great places to eat as well. We gave a tip at the end as we were... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
