Having taken many of these tours this is the first time I give it a 4 instead of a 5 rating. This tour covers a lot of ground and is done by a local. I love this Free walking Tour model and have taken about 2 dozen walking tours over five continents. In every respect I thought this tour was in keeping with what I expect from a walking tour (iconic buildings, nice itinerary, lots of walking, local narration) but when the tour was over, my wife and I agreed that we had not really learned as much as we usually do. If felt a bit like our guide focused too much on ancillary things and that so much was not said that should have been. I still recommend this tour as a great way to get introduced to the city but for the first time ever I did wonder if the hop-on/ hop-off model, or perhaps a private tour, might have been more informative for those wanting an introduction to Melbourne.

I started with the Melbourne Sights tour in the morning and was thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail and care. And so, I also booked the culture capital tour in the late afternoon.
Our guide for the day was Liam. He was approachable, informative and quite caring for the group. Liam's ability to engage the group in interactive conversations and tailor recommendations to individual interests was exceptional. His witty anecdotes and historical insights brought the city to life, making the tour a truly memorable experience.
The tour allowed us to explore both the iconic landmarks and the hidden gems of Melbourne. Liam's consideration for the group, even during the unpredictable Melbourne weather, ensured that we had a comfortable and enjoyable walk.
If you're planning a visit to Melbourne, I highly recommend booking an I'm Free Walking Tour. Not only will you gain a deeper understanding of the city's history and culture, but you'll also have the opportunity to connect with like-minded travelers and discover hidden gems that you might otherwise miss.

I started with the 10:30 a.m. tour covering the main sites of the city and its history, it was so interesting and well conducted that I decided to also do the 3 p.m. tour the same day regarding the street art and the alleys. I recommend these tours 100% - ideally to be done at the start of your stay in Melbourne, so you will have time to test the many addresses given by the guide to enjoy the city like a local. Thanks Tom!

Anyone who has done these sort of free walking tours knows that it is the guides that make or break the experience. Fortunately, in this case, Tom, a native Melburnian, shepherded our group through Melbourne's history and sights while offering his own unique perspectives and insights throughout it. For a crash course into what makes Melbourne into the vibrant city it is today, I definitely recommend taking a few hours out of your day during your stay and go on a free walking tour.

Even though I’ve visited numerous cities all over the world, this is the first walking tour I’ve ever done. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The guide, Matthew, was knowledgeable, personable and kept our group of about 20 people engaged for the entire 2.5-3.0 hours. Walking at a leisurely pace, we were able to see many of the key noteworthy spots in Melbourne (a wonderful city, I might add). In addition, Matthew gave us many suggestions on things to do, where to go to eat, shop etc… which is always valuable when it comes from someone who is local. The tour is free, but it is customary to tip the guide - cash or credit cards are accepted. I was so impressed with this tour that I will explore similar ones in other walkable cities that I visit.

This is my first time joining a free walking tour. Our guide has 10 years of experience and is very knowledgeable about the history of Melbourne. I like his passion in what he is doing. I’m satisfied with the tour plan. There will be a tipping part at the end to help sustain this business and it’s not mandatory.
I’ll recommend the program to others if they are visiting the city.

We did the Melbourne I’m Free walking tour on December 28th with the guide Lochie. The tour started at 1030 and there were about 100 people there. We were broken up into three groups of 30ish people each. We ended up walking about 5km or 3miles during the three hour tour. Lochie was an excellent guide and gave us a good mix of the history of Melbourne as well as facts about current day Melbourne. The tour took us all around Melbourne and it gave us a good idea of where things are when we went back on our own. Lochie did a good job answering questions during the tour as well. He kept entertained with self deprecating humor and interesting facts for the three hours. He was also a bartender and told us places to go for good food and drinks as well. There as a 15 minute break about 60% of the way in.

I would definitely recommend doing this tour earlier in your trip as it helps with navigating the city in the future.

It rained a little on us but overall the weather was good and we had a good time.

There were four of us who did the tour, my wife, two daughters (14 and 16) and myself. My girls were pretty tired and hungry at the end of the tour.

Our guide Tom was funny, enthusiastic and informative. It was a cold morning with a disparate group and he was great at bringing people together. I liked that he personalized it with his own experience growing up in Melbourne. The content was a good balance of history in the first half and culture in the second. Helped me prioritise what I wanted to do for the rest of my days there.

We took two tours with "I'm free Wlaking Tours" and both of them were really informative and had an extremely informed tour guide. He answered every question and helped us to get the best out of our experience visiting the city. I would definitely recommend "I'm free walking tours" to anyone trying to see the best of Melbourne.

We enjoyed an excellent walking tour of the city sights with Daniel as our guide.

He was so informative, enthusiastic, fun and we understood him clearly. We really appreciated the tips he gave us on restaurants and cafés.

We would highly recommend taking this tour when you arrive in the city to give you an overview and some ideas on things to do for the rest of your visit.
