Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The mysterious scene is very weird, with all kinds of fun things, and the lights and music are interesting and novel. This thing can only be understood intuitively, so I suggest you go and have fun. The wine is a bit expensive, and there are many activities (music, performances, book launch meetings, etc.), so you can go in and have fun. I have been there several times, and it is still quite fun overall.

The Butterfly Club is a fun place for patrons. It has an Art Nouveau feel to it. Acts performed on the stage range from vaudeville to burlesque. It's full of nooks and crannies. The Butterfly Club is in Carson Place, which runs off Little Collins St.

We where in Melbourne on the weekend and we did not make many plans other than go to the theatre on Friday night, so we went exploring and this club was a find, we got tickets (tad expensive) for this standup comedy show and it was good, 3 out of the 6 acts were great and the other 3 were way below average.
The place did not servce food or any snacks or nibbles, we needed to run out, grab a quick bit before our show starts. We could not be bothered to stay back for a drink after the show, the place was very quirky but not inviting.
My partner loved though - so it must be me

Expensive to sit through 45 minutes of poorly writtin self indulgent rubbish if Michelle Nussey aspires to entertain she has a long way to go! The venue is irresponsible to carry such poorly written and poorly performed material - a real insult to the audience. She needs to get friends to critique her work and help her - not put herself up as something she is not. I blame the venue! They do themselves a disservice. As a bar and concept a positive for Melbourne! If they are going to charge for entertainment they need to take reaponsibilty for it.
A total waste of money and time and as her character does she should do like wise and apologise for wasting people's time.

Worth taking the walk down the alley. This place is quirky & fun. The rooms just keeping on going & there is SO much kitsch to see! I didn't get to see one of the shows but the bar is so cool, I would definitely return.

Club is located in one of the small lanes at Carson place near Little Collins. The looks on the outside is nothing worth remembering, just the big garbage bins located near it's door. But don't get discouraged as I almost did. Inside the people working there are gems, very friendly with a big smile on their faces. Now the warmth of the place is getting special. We headed to the bar, decorated in clinquant interior decors. Gaudy but funny. Ordering a cocktail which I asked the bartender to suprise me, and it was a heavenly suprise. Best cocktail I ever had in Melbourne! The theater is located on the 3rd floor, bar on the 2nd floor, ticket sales on the first floor. so be prepared for the stairs if you are not fit.
The theater was small probably it could seat 40 people. There are 3 different kinds of seats, we sat at the back a church pew chair for 3 and we had a good view and a good laugh that evening. It is a place worth visiting. They have plenty of comedy gigs that will entertain your evening.

Visited the Butterfly Club to see an event for the 2014 Midsumma Festival.

In a discreet laneway the premises exudes an olde world charm with many curios and memorabilia in the drawing room/lounge area as we waited for the show to commence.

Certinly one for those who like their entertainment and décor non mainstream.

Had a "side splitting laughter" 🤣time at the show "LAW AND ORDER PTV" with a cocktail especially made for it( Fare evader)...containing white rum plus Cointreau🍹.
Venue decorated in kitsch style with comfotable arm chairs making an informal, fun atmosphere.
Recommend a visit 👍

Visited during Melbournes Comedy Festival. This quirky venue is very much a different experience every time. Small theatre shows that show a variety of entertainment. Pretty much luck of the draw if it good or bad. All the same it’s a place to be remembered.

Hidden at the end of an alleyway, this bar is amazing. Have been lucky enough to perform here twice, but the venue itself is very Melbourne and a must, especially for tourists wanting to experience unique Melbourne!
