This was a great way to spend a Saturday in June. Our guide, Ben was brilliant and his sense of humour and knowledge along the way provided much entertainment.
Ben also ensured that we didn't feel rushed at any point, making sure we had enough time to take in the wines and food at each if the locations visited.
Highly recommended!

We had a great day with Ben as our guide! Perfect tour to join for our small group of friends. The tour group wasn’t too big which meant the day felt really personalised and intimate as opposed to a massive group tour. The wineries we visited were great, everything was organised for us and tastings at each location happened seamlessly. Ben was fantastic keeping us up to date on the plans for the day, offering to take photos and making us feel comfortable and happy. Would recommend as a great value for money tour!

A group of friends from all over Australia thought all together in Melbourne, we would do a winery tour for a fun day out. Aged in our late 20's-40. Picked mainly from the reviews on trip advisor.
the bus was waiting for us, must have been very early as we were there before our pick up time, bus was great. Our guide was lovely, was more suited to an older group, we found him very boring and didn't engage much with group. He knew a lot about the region and wine, we would have liked someone that engaged a little more and got the group talking. The ride down there was silent apart from our little group talking and feeling like we were being the naughty kids breaking the awkward silence. He told us we would be back in Melbourne at 6pm.
First stop was yering station, they had someone talk us through the wines and how to taste. Then gave us a list to pick and taste from. Would have liked more time here.
Then went to the cheese tasting, the lady in shop awkwardly rushed through the cheeses, got to taste some lovely cheese.
Then went to Chandon, most of us thought this was a waste of time. Yes it's a lovely looking facility, but the staff there, meh. No tasting here, if you want to it's $5 extra, which no one in our group did, nor did they purchase anything either. So you think Chandon might rethink things. They have 4 bottles, without tasting they ask you which you would like, then you get a whole glass of that. Bad luck if you choose wrong, which we all seemed to do and left out glasses full.
Then onto Rochford for lunch and an amazing tasting, finally someone with a bit of personality and spunk. Loved our lunch. Only problem was another huge bus came in when we went back after lunch to do more tastings, so the poor staff got hammered, again more time here would have been great.
So it now just after lunch and 3 wineries down, hmmm. We now went to our last winery that we actually all disliked. The owner doing the tasting was rude, condescending, poor taste in jokes, went on for wayyyyy toooo long and the wine was awful, so was all the olives and nuts. We leave our last Winery at 2.45pm on a low from this disgusting man's seminar that bored everyone and We all looked at the clock and thought, what it's over already.
Then are taken to a chocolate shop, that's exactly what it is, an over priced chocolate shop. No private talk or anything. Then given half an hour there, for what we weren't sure. After 10 minutes, which is plenty long enough our whole group was waiting outside, ready to leave. When our guide finally appeared we asked if we could fit in about winery as it was so early. Now 3.05pm. He said no, have to book. What rubbish, yes for a private talk, but not to show up and look around and taste, even if they charge a small amount as its an extra and if we choose to pay, it's our choice. Nope. So we awkwardly hung around there to kill some time before making it back to Melbourne by 4.45pm
Wouldn't recommend this company. You want someone who would be a little fun and maybe time the day out better. No one was tipsy and no one was really ready to head back. Felt like it wasn't value for money. We were disappointed and didn't come close to other Winery tours we have done in other states. Shame.

Hello Michelle Lee,
Thank you for your trip advisor comments.
We welcome all comments and appreciate the feedback given.
We cannot comment on one’s interpretation of their perception of a day in the Yarra Valley with Yarra Valley Wine Tasting Tours.
Our Trip Advisor record, however, for those discerning guests wishing to experience the Yarra Valley on our wine tasting tour will speak for itself with over 350+ 5 star comments (80% of these attributed to your driver on the day, Christian) with an average 92% 5 star rating.
We glean from your comment that this was not the tour for you and your group of 4. Our tours are designed to allow guests to enjoy the Yarra Valley, sample wine and enjoy a great lunch then visit cheese and chocolate outlets. If you were wanting to be “tipsy” at the end of the day you unfortunately chose the wrong tour.
Our driver on this day is an experienced, well credentialed professional who takes pride in his work and an interest in his passengers, always punctual and early to pickups. He engages with everyone on the coach – if they don’t want to be drawn into conversation and prefer to keep to themselves he will respect that decision.
He will also respect the time table put together to cater to the wineries, restaurant and dairy visited on the day. Given you were a party of 4 (though your comment tries to allude to being a much bigger and cohesive group) with the remaining 12 guests on the coach having enjoyed the day as advertised it is not always possible to just “pop into a winery” on the way home.
A factual correction to your narrative - and you did in fact leave your last winery at 3.14pm and you did in fact arrive back in Melbourne at 5.03pm.
You were a group of 4 on a coach of 16 guests - the remainder all enjoying their day, writing to tell us of their appreciation for the driver, great wineries, great presenters and an enjoyable day in the Yarra Valley.
We hope you get the opportunity to experience the Yarra valley with an appropriate tour.

Shortly after we we picked up the driver started to give a long explanation of the Trip and the Vineyards. However he was only driving with his left hand as he was holding a microphone in his right hand the whole time, even when negotiating junctions and bends, which required him to also take his left hand off the steering wheel to change gears while he continued to use the mic in his right hand. This is extremely dangerous irresponsibke driving which could endanger the 16+ passengers. When I discussed this dangerous driving with the driver he could not understand he was doing anything dangerous!
Shortly afterwards he spoke to his office and we were told to leave the tour!
Not a good experience and very dangerous and unprofessional.
The picture is of the driver.

What an insult this is!!
Let me recount the activities of the tour.
You were collected from Lilydale station at 10.05 and had a 12 minute journey to Yering Station.
After alighting from the bus and in full view of the others on the tour you made the statement that the driver had been holding a microphone in one hand and driving with one hand on the wheel.
The microphone is in fact attached to the driver around his neck. On this occasion the microphone had slid a little out of place. The driver pushed it back into position.
You used a loud voice to convey your message regarding a safety issue ensuring all could hear your comment that the driver was driving unsafely with the microphone usage.
This alarmist attitude and behaviour from you is unacceptable to this business.
At around 10.20am the driver rang his office about this issue. His reading of the situation was that it appeared you didn’t want to be on the tour in the first place.
Your alarmist manner and reference to the people’s safety is completely off limits.
I instructed the driver to take you back to Lilydale immediately after the tasting was completed with a minimum of interruption to the other people on the tour. You were taken back to Lilydale at 11.00am.
It is of interest that when our driver returned back to the other guests on the tour they were all concerned for him and that your mentioned your comments were completely out of order. They too were please you were off the tour.
You were most successful in getting off side with the other 18 passengers!!
Safety is the most important issue for the operation of our public passenger vehicles. Any issue where the driver might be distracted during a tour by an agitated passenger on the tour is immediately resolved and if need be the party creating the issue removed from the vehicle.
Our terms and conditions of our operations are on display in all our vehicles. The good news from your point of view was that you were not charged for the tour.
In conclusion, after operating public passenger vehicles for over 20 years and 5,000,000 kilometres you are the only passenger who lasted 55 minutes on the bus. No more to be said!!
Your taking of a photo of the driver and publishing on Trip Advisor is another matter we will be investigated and resolved

It seems like most of the folks were lucky enough to have Christian as their guide. I was not. Our guide rushed us from the very beginning. I understand they squeeze a lot in, but we don't need to be reminded every minute we don't have a lot of time. I also think it would have been nice to have some music prepared for the van ride opposed to shuffling through the radio station. I hope the dairy farm visit for the cheese tasting would have been more formal with a sit down including crackers, bread and wine. We simply stood around and sampled cheese on a plate that was passed around. Lastly, the chocolate stop at the end was a bit silly. Nothing more than a touristy chocolate store. Would have preferred another winery instead. I would recommend hiring a driver and customizing your own tour so you're on your own time.

We thought we would splash out with a nicer looking wine tour, however we were left a little disappointed with this one.
- Lunch at Domain Chandon was nice but light on: we were only given a main (choice out of 3) and were only given 2 sides of chips to share between the table of 7. No wine was included (on a winery tour...?). No dessert, no appetisers.
- There was no flexibility to go to a requested winery that not far away.
- The chocolate tasting included only one chocolate
All in all, not worth the $$ spent.

Been on different Yarra Valley winery tours before and we thought we would try this one for a change. Good day out to the different wineries, probably my only feedback is that at the 2nd winery instead of a tasting it was a full glass of wine to pick, then at lunch it was a tasting with no wine with lunch (unless purchased). On other previous tours we had a glass of wine with lunch, and it was more about wine tasting. The chocolate/ ice-cream place was ok, but not really necessary. Good day of the city.

We had quite a nice day, mostly because we went as a group and it was good company. The only real issue was the driver, Christian - to begin with, he just seemed totally uninterested in being there but by lunch, it became downright rudeness. We’d found the tour a little rushed until that point but we figured the lunch break would give us a chance to buy a bottle of bubbles (shared between seven of us, so nothing crazy) out on the deck in the sun. Christian informed us that ‘you’d better skull that’ (no joke, totally stone faced as he remained for the entire tour) before pulling the bus up next to the deck and staring us down until we reluctantly swigged back our glasses and got on- it’s a Saturday wine tour, I don’t think 20 minutes to enjoy 3/4 of a glass of bubbles is an outrageous expectation. Luckily the wineries and distillery mostly made up for Christians lacklustre attitude.
*after receiving an unbelievably rude and arrogant response from Yarra valley wine tasting tours management for my original 3 star review, I’ve adjusted my rating to what they evidently deserve. You are a rude establishment as I can now see from your similarly arrogant responses to any other customer who has similarly provided critical feedback- grow up!

Can I know is this tour conducted on a daily basis and where is the nearest pick up point from Atlantis Hotel?
Written 23 September 2019
Hi goodkl, yes the Domaine Chandon and Wineries tour runs on a daily basis, that is every day of the year except Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Years Day.
The closest meeting point to the Atlantis Hotel on Spencer Street is the Radisson Hotel on Flagstaff Gardens which is approximately 600 metres walk.
