Neighbourhood: Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

    Stalwart of Melbourne's theatre district
    One of Melbourne's favorite live theatres, Her Majesty's has been remodeled over the years to keep up-to-date with current trends. With the long run of the Broadway hit musical Hamilton coming to an end, the next major show will be a revival of the Disney family favorite, Mary Poppins. Her Majesty's has a long history as a stalwart of Melbourne's theatre district.

    Mary Poppins
    Watch Mary Poppins on our 7th day of arrival, 7pm Friday night show. We bought a pair of tickets, stall 5, Y13 &14 @ $60 each, all way back on L1, online. Lousy view with a pillar right in front. Show is fantastic! Cast is fantastic! Music is excellent! Never watch any original movie by Julie Andrews, but I simply enjoy the show by this cast!

    Great Show, but better before the changes
    We enjoyed the show. But were disappointed that the content had been changed, to it's detriment. This is the sixth time we have seen it in London and once in New York over several decades. I felt the scene with many people trying to sing the Phantoms composition was unnecessary. And what happened to the.powerful scene where many are climbing down and singing and where the Phantom sings above the stage. Disappointed. ALL the cast were absolutely excellent, as was the orchestra.

    Poor view but great show
    We saw 'Mary Poppins', having seats in one of the stalls' back rooms that are obstructed by the balcony above. The show itself was excellent but we couldn't see Mary descending from the heights, and nor could we fully observe a couple of scenes where Bert sings on top of the row of houses. However the dancing was excellent and the scene changes well executed, seamlessly. Actors and actresses were good. Her Majesty's also has comfortable seating and a good atmosphere, including the orchestra pit.

    Great show but average comfort
    A classic old style theatre in the Melbourne CBD. Unfortunately the seats are too close together leaving very minimal leg room! The person in front of me was tall and I could hardly see past them because the rows were too close and not enough slope between rows.

    Matty = exceptional customer relations
    We went to see Miss Saigon for our anniversary. My wife is in a wheelchair so we usually get seated at the back of the theatre as we were. We were greeted by Matty who then proceeded to arrange better seats for us. He made sure we were comfortable and kept checking on my wife. He went over and above to make sure we had a wonderful time. Matty is six star.

We saw "Hamilton" when we visited Melbourne in late December 2022 ! The decor is so historic, they have a small bar & seating if your looking for a drink before the show ! The atmosphere inside the theatre was so good ! Make sure you visit the music pit before a show starts
