Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

My wife and I have bought two tickets in the front row of the Dress Circle (near the centre) for Frozen, The Musical by Disney productions.

My favourite seats are at the centre of the front row of The Dress Circle, where I can get an excellent view of the stage at the vantage point of an appropriate height.

Her Majesty's Theatre is said to be Australia's finest lyric theatre. The theatre is luxuriously appainted in gold and crimson, with velvet seating. The theatre dates from 1886, when Melbourne was truly Marvelous. The interior was redone in the 1930s in Art Deco style. This classical theatre is reopening after the covid lockdown with the Disney musical, Frozen. Melbourne's East End Theatrical District is rivaled by only London and New York.

I Saw Shrek the Musical This Year and I Quite Enjoyed it Especially seeing Lucy Durack as Princess Fiona Because Lucy Durack is One of my Musical Theatre Idols

My Favourite Characters were The Dragon and Princess Fiona of Course But However It Wasn’t Marcia Hines who Played the Dragon, It was Her Understudy Denise Devlin because Marcia Was Unavailable

My Top 2 Scenes were 1. When Donkey Was Searching for Princess Fiona inside The Barn and He Bumped into Her and He was Frightened So Fiona Told Him She is the Princess even though she was ugly and 2. The Wedding Scene where Fiona and Farquaad were Supposed to Get Married but The Celebration came to a halt when dragon showed up

I’ve Bern to the Her Majesty’s Theatre Before to see Various Other Musicals so it’s such a great theatre

The noted Melbourne architect Nahum Barnet designed this theatre in 1886. It was opened on October 1 1886 as the Alexandra Theatfre. JC Williamson had this theatre from the 1900s for nearly 4 0 years. The name changed to Her Majesty in 1901. Renovations started in 1934 after a fire gutted it in 1929. It has had Dame Nellie Melba Joan Sutherland and Anna Pavlova all major performers. Mike Walsh purchased it in the year 2000. It is on the Victorian Heritage Register and National Trust classified

Beautiful old Melbourne Theatre that caters to smaller shows. Very intimate setting and good views from all seats (unless someone very tall sitting in front of you). Sat in row O of the stalls and view was great. Booster seats available for kids to use. Close to Parliament station and Chinatown.
Shrek was great with interesting sets and costumes. Ben Mingay and Todd McKenney did a wonderful job. Only disappointment was the lack of Shrek themed stuff in lobby/ upstairs.... when we saw Charlie and the Chocolate factory here there were some cool things for the kids to do.... would have liked a few photo opportunities for the kids and to promote on social media!

Thanks for your review Kerryn. Although we may feel like a smaller venue, HMT actually seats 1700 patrons and is able to take on large productions easily as one of the biggest of the heritage theatres in Melbourne! We will pass on your comments to the producer about the foyer installations. Charlie was lots of fun for kids for sure! So glad you enjoyed the show and your visit with us and we hope to see you again soon at another production. Kind regards Patron Liaison

Her Majesty’s Theatre - always a favourite venue for shows, has its own box office and a licensed cafe. Easy to walk to, and close to transport. Went to see Shrek and managed to obtain a cheap $59 ticket for the Sunday matinee. Friendly staff helping, guiding, ushering and selling. My seat was in the stalls (ground floor) @ the back .. no viewing issues - but not enough height for me to see over the man in front, but perfect to view between people. The theatre is not so big that you are far away from the stage - it’s close and clear! The show is wonderful though I was sorry not to have seen Marcia Hines as the dragon. My only slight critic is that Donkey speaks soooo much and is not always understood. LOVED Lord Farquaad and all his scenes - he stole the show! Would thoroughly recommend.

Attended Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and had a wonderful night. The theatre is very elegantly designed in an old world charm. Old fashion theatre seating allows for plenty of room for all theatre attendees.

Bought tickets for shrek in the grand circle, obviously with cheapest tickets we knew that we'd be sat high up. Had an issue with the people sat in front and the usher in the grand circle helped by moving us into stalls 6 rows from the front, so all in all amazing night friendly and helpful staff and fantastic production.

Went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This was our 1st visit to Australia so we wanted to do something we do in the states, and compare. The seats were very comfortable and I could not see any obstructed views. The ticket price and the snack prices were very reasonable. This theatre is centrally located and very easy to walk to. I would recommend this to any show lovers!

Bought seats in the stalls which were great. From booking through an early coffee in the cafe to exiting the show, everything went smoothly. Have been there before to see another show and enjoy the atmosphere. Staggered rows of seating would be helpful, but I understand how much of a challenge that would be.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was an entertaining show and had plenty of lines for young and old. I liked that it was ‘personalised’ to Australia with some specific lines.
Recommend both the venue and the show.
