Very nice place. Loved the nature. Cute gorillas. We didn't get to see all the animals because its like a maze where you have to take paths to find animals. I compare with Taronga zoo in Sydney where you get to see all animals while...More

The Melbourne Zoo should be congratulated on the way they are moving away from zoo cages to enclosures. They have been doing this steadily over the past 20 years and it is a pleasure to visit there to see the animals under far less stress.

We ventured down to the zoo in the VIC school holidays, kids are FREE, But it was super busy finding a park took over an hour, best to get there early. Kids enjoyed the butterfly enclosure best.

We had a lovely visit. Although it was a cold, wintery day, the rain held off and we enjoyed seeing the native birds, penguins, elephants and orangutans. We visited during school holidays so there were lots of people, but the queues were not too onerous....More

We're members of Vic Zoos so we took the grandchildren and they loved it too. The exhibits we saw seemed to suit the large animals like elephants and lions i.e. resembled their natural environments with plenty of space to move around. Not so sure about...More

I would plan about 4-5 hours and I would recommend go in early so you can work around the feeling times and also you are allowed to bring in your own food and drinks. Enjoy
