About
Enterprize is a traditionallyconstructed replica of a Hobart-built 1830s coastal trading ship. Built to the original ship’s dimensions, primarily with recycled timber held with copper fastenings, rigged with tarred hempen cordage and finished out with traditional flax canvas sails, she was built close to her 1830s namesake while complying with modern maritime safety regulations. Belowdecks berthing and comfort were included to accommodate passengers instead of the original ship’s purpose of carrying cargo. Built over 6½ years by mostly volunteers and launched in 1997, Enterprize offers her unique experience to Melburnians, Victorians... everyone with an adventurous spirit. The ship operates from numerous ports in Port Phillip, and on occasions along the south coast of Australia. Enterprize’s programs includes public sailing events, offshore ocean voyages, school education and experience programs, sail training voyages and the ship is also available for private charters.

The schooner Enterprize is Melbourne's tall ship. The Enterprize was instrumental in the settlement of Victoria. When John Batman arrived on the banks of the River Yarra, he famously said "This will be the place for a village." The "village" became the city of Melbourne, "Queen City of the South." John Pascoe Fawkner, a Launceston publican, bought the 50 ton schooner Enterprize to take his party to Port Phillip. Unfortunately, John Pascoe Fawkner missed the boat, although his party did sail. However, numerous Melbourne localities are named after the enterprising pioneer John Pascoe Fawkner

Cruise was cancelled and 6 weeks later I am still waiting for a refund despite being told 4 weeks ago it would be actioned - very poor form. I understand this is largely run by volunteers, but I feel I have been more than patient.

I received this as a Xmas gift and I’ve got to say it was one of the best presents I’ve ever received.
Had a ball on the tall ship and really enjoyed the sail even though it was a bit choppy. We had the Spirit of Tasmania cross in front of us which was great. I actually climbed the rigging...not bad for an old bag!! It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I felt very accomplished after doing it. So if you go....which I highly recommend....try climbing the rigging it was a fantastic experience

This was a present for our grandson on his 9th birthday. Mum, Dad and grandparents and of course Hamish met the ship at Williamstown pier on a beautiful sunny Saturday and sailed out in the bay for an hour. The crew were very knowledgeable about the history and let everyone have a go at many tasks including raising the sails and climbing the ricking. Everyone enjoyed the experience and would thoroughly recommend it to people of all ages.

This is a great experience for the whole family - the kids especially enjoyed helping 'hoist the sails,' and pretended to sleep on the bunks on the lower deck. This is a really authentic historical experience, and it's amazing that it's all run by volunteers. We really enjoyed it - kids aged 8 & 10. Highly recommended for a fun day out. (Just don't forget to bring your sea legs - it can get choppy on a windy day!)

An educational experience not to be missed. Whether you sail in the dockland vicinity for an hour or out on the bay for 3 hours; this is truly a thrilling experience.
I have taken students on 4 occasions now and every time they have had a ball. Crew and Master very informative, supportive and encouraging. Do try this out of your comfort zone adventure. You wont regret it. Do it just for the views of Melbourne at sunset from the water.

Highly recommend a voyage on the Enterprise if you get the chance. The volunteers were professional, helpful and knowledgeable. It is well worth it. We took the 1.5 hour trip off Mornington and had dolphins join us for at least 30mins. Wonderful way to spend an evening!

We took the one hour cruise from Williamstown Pier. The vessel is crewed by volunteers who are friendly, dedicated and knowledgeable about the ship and early Melbourne. I'd happily recommend this activity.
