We went on a MELTours laneway tour on the weekend with a work group. Despite us being all Melbourne based, we learned so much about Melbourne and got to see laneways, street art, shops, bars and cafes we'd never known about! We also got a lot of history and background information about Melbourne and about the places we visited. Eben... More

Overall the tour was most enjoyable, the guide was excellent - very knowledgeable and entertaining. She took us to many places associated with the TV series and extra points of interest in the city. I learnt a lot of Melbourne history. The only negative was spending the first hour in a cafe, the food was good but I don't think... More

Highly recommend this tour. Besides getting insights into how the series is filmed, you learn a lot about Melbourne's history. The guide is very knowledgeable.

My mum & I decided to spoil ourselves for our birthdays by doing the Taste of Melbourne walking tour, and we were not disappointed! Cathy our guide was vibrant, enthusiastic and so informative about the history of food in Melbourne. We learnt so much about the city we have visited so often, and now know where to find some great... More

I highly recommend the Laneway Tour. We have been visiting Melbourne for years and walking past the locations that we went past on our tour and was blown away with what we have been missing all these years. The doorways that we never noticed, the laneways that had no significant meaning to us and the shops that we never gave... More

An absolute must for people who regularly visit the Melbourne CBD and never ventured from the main streets, or are curious about the history of the City (art, architecture, shops and bars that are hidden gems) Our relaxed casual walking tour with Cathy from MELTours was worth much more than the $$$ paid. She has so much knowledge and was... More

Highly recommend the Laneways Walking tour! My mum and I had such a lovely few hours with our guide Kathy, learning about the history of Melbourne, the laneways, street art, architecture and finding places I never knew existed throughout the city (having lived in Melbourne for 7 years). We were really impressed with Kathy's knowledge and enthusiasm for Melbourne!

My husband and I are both Melbournians and love spending time in the city, but we realised that we hadn't really taken enough time to truly investigate our home town. So we have started doing day trips and exploring and we chose to do a MeLtours walking tour of the laneways that we have grown up knowing of but hadn't... More

We had an excellent 3 hour plus tour with Stan as our guide. On a beautiful sunny day we were guided through the laneways of Melbourne. Street art, hidden shops, great architecture.-Stan's knowledge and commentary was outstanding. Highly recommended.

What a great way to see some very interesting places in Melbourne, that you may not have seen otherwise!! The history behind Melbourne was also very interesting and John told it to us in a very relaxed manner. The only thing we didn't enjoy so much (group of 5 ladies) was the lunch that was included. After being past so... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
