Completed the Lanes and Arcades walk this morning! Had Luisa as my guide! Have to say, I was thoroughly impressed. Luisa is extremely friendly and likeable and her knowledge of Melbourne is second to none. She definitely made this tour worthwhile! We walked about 3km round the little hidden gems of Melbourne cbd, stopping off at some lovely spots for... More

This is a little late as we have been to India and back since going on this walk! On the 6th February we met up with Sean (tour leader) and one other couple for this walk and set off on what turned out to be a friendly, often hilarious tour of 3 delicious and completely different hidden away restaurants. The... More

Tour guide Louisa provided us with a superb walking tour of arcades and small shops in Melbourne that we never under any circumstances would have discovered or seen on our own. I cannot emphasize enough how this tour added to our enjoyment of our visit to Melbourne. We are from New York City, and we know how to find Unique... More

This tour gives a taste of the history and development of downtown Melbourne from textiles and warehouses to mosaics, murals, and quirky shops. Our fantastic guide, Luisa, lead us through the lanes, arcades and old restored buildings which now contain a diversity of shops and cafes. We definitely want to go back to browse around some more.

Tour leader Sarah gave us an Excellent behind- the-scenes tour showing a hidden side of Melbourne. Well- paced to cater for age range of participants and well-sited hot chocolate (delicious) and lunch (very tasty) locations. We were shown plenty of places that will be worth a second visit and ideas for places to see that were not on the route.... More

Fantastic morning being taken round all the lanes and arcades in Melbourne. Our guide Danae was brilliant - friendly, full of information and useful hints and tips about a city she obviously loves. It's a walking tour of part of the city - we had already walked down some of the streets without realising all these little lanes and arcades... More

We met our guide, Sean and went off in our small group, exploring the lanes and arcades in Melbourne. We wandered through the alleyways and saw a variety of street art, galleries, cafes, and shops that we would likely have missed, had we been on our own. Sean was an excellent guide, sharing the history of this dynamic, ever changing... More

We only had one day in Melbourne and Hidden Secrets Tours was recommended to us. We were so happy that we booked with this company for a walking tour. It was excellent and we did not want it to end. My wife and me had booked ourselves into a small group walking tour yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic. Our young guide Sean was a really nice and knowledgable tour guide who took us both (and one additional nice Australian lady from Melbourne) to 3 venues. All venues offered not only a great local insight in the wines and food... More

What an awesome way to spend 3 hours. Got such a great insite into the lanes, alleyways and history of Melbourne CBD. Variety of tastings were great with morning tea and lunch in places I would never have found. Delicious lunch. Catie was a delightful tour guide and very patient and insiteful. Highly recommended this for the coffee lovers out... More

Dear Fiona B. How lovely to read your enjoyment of our Cafe Culture Walk that you did with Caity. This tour covers a different area than the Lanes and Arcades walk, so we are pleased you still enjoyed the other different laneways we include in this itinerary. We are glad you think the coffee lovers will enjoy, and we know... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
